Another question is, does the guy you're fighting have any other fight experiences. Just because you're tall and have longer reach dosn't mean you can take him. Throwing jabs will only help if you guys stay standing up. If you've never seen him fight, then he might be faster, and have better ground game then you do. What happens if he slams you? You say you've never been in a street fight before, so do you know how to block hits, and throw proper punches?
If I were you, I'd go with the advice you got on just letting it go. I'm 17 years old too, and fighting over a girl is just stupid, esspecially cause it seams like he didn't really do anything that bad. If he were to push, slap or punch her then it'd be different. I faught over a girl twice, the same girl. The guy was disrespecting her, verbally, and kept telling people that I was afraid of him, and that I wouldn't come out of my house because I knew I'd get my ass kicked. He was about 6'0" and 250-260 pounds, and I'm 5'8" at about 145-150 pounds, but he couldn't take a hit, and he hit the ground after the first hook. The second one was accually one of my so called friends, but everytime I'd fight with my girl he'd try getting with her and all that crap. That fight was a little different, he suckered me in the nose, we faught for a little while, and it got broken up. Trust me, it's not worth it dude, wether you think so or not. I got away from that girl asap, after being with her for almost 2 years, because all she was is trouble.
You're saying you're going to fight the guy either way, and that's your choice, but if it comes down to you getting your ass beat then hopefully it'll teach you a lesson. Since you're going to fight the guy either way, maybe watch some video's, or if you have some friends who are descent fighters then maybe get them to show you some ****. There's nothing else I can really say as of right now. Just be careful, street fights can be very dirty, and theres always the chance of getting jumped or something afterwards.
