Default You will Probably Laugh at me for this but

I bought Tae Bo Amped today. I wanted something I could pop in the DVD player that held some sort of interst to me, because I often times miss getting to the gym on the weekends...just because of yard work or schedule. That and I get bored with doing the same ol' same ol'. So, I got it. And, I have to say the fat burn acclerator program is a pretty good workout. Anybody else ever try it?

Nothin funny with that dude. It burns calories? It's effective.

It's better than doing nothing.

I did it once as part of a wellness and fitness program. I found the more you laugh at it the better exercise you get, because you start to over exaggerate the moves.

Krav is right though.

I haven't ever done the Tae Bo, but I did recently get the P90X set, and I must say I like it a lot. I do know a few people that do Tae Bo and they seem to like it quite a bit. Like Krav said, it's better than nothing.

Exactly!!! Doing something is so much better than doing nothing. Its still exercise and if it you enjoy doing it and it works for you thats all that matters. Add in that Smashingmachine is'nt a small dude and Tae Bo makes for a great cardio session.

Thanks guys, I knew you all'd make me feel less goofy about it. It is a really great workout. Like Crash said here, I'm not a small dude. I looked like I walked through a car wash when I finished. And, I typically do work out 6 days a week, but I just wanted one more thing to be able to mix in there to keep things from getting stale.

Default tae-bo

brought a rae bo dvd myself and thought the same.....stopped doing it because i thought i looked a dick then i alterd it and made my own little tae bo workin up with kees kicks punches lunges and press-ups and it does work you out

P90X is no joke. I'll be buying a set for myself in a few weeks.

These ready to go workouts are all still workouts. Tae Bo, PX90 etc., somebody sat down and created these programs with results in mind. When they fail to transform a person's body its not the fault of the program but the person failing to do the program. The same can be said for expensive treadmils, weight benches and stationary bikes which more often than not end up as towel racks. Its not that the machines fail to perform its that people become too lazy to use them. No matter what you're doing, if you expect results you have to work and thats something too many people are unwilling to do.

I agree Crashti. Sometimes when I'm lazy or injured, I look at all the nice equipment (hate to brag, but I have nice equipment in my upstairs living room), and say

"Crash says the equipment/routine is only as good as your willingness to use it".

And then I feel guilty because I have all this nice **** in my mini-gym. So them I get to it, and feel great!

And when you feel great, it usually translates into looking great eventually.

I wouldn't do Tae Bo everynight either. I just don't get into it working out at home. I need that gym atmosphere, but I will and do workout to it a couple times a week. Like yesterday...I ran 2 miles, rested for about a hour and did Tae Bo. Nice workout.

Smash, many of us (some more so than others), have been where you're at.

It doesent matter. Nobody has a right to laugh at you if you're doing what you think needs to be done to get fit or lose weight.

Man if it works for you? Do that ****!

In 2000, I weighed 270 lbs at 6'0/6'1

I lost 50 on my own by just enrolling in a local Karate/Kickboxing gym that also offered BJJ.

I'm still struggling with that last 30 lbs or so, and so far again am within 15 lbs of where I know based on my BMI, where I s hould be. But I'm also very muscular, so that's why I come to Fight Forum, because I struggle knowing what is too much or not enough or am I on the right track.

I've had great people around me encouraging me. Good kickboxing coaches, BJJ guys, etc saying "Mike you look the part, and you're a good practitioner, just finish".

I'm stuck in that mode right now.

I'd be far far worse off if I never met half you guys on Fight Forum.

I'd still have alot of progress, but these little bits I get here and suggestions and stories?

Those make the difference bro.

So you go and do Tae Bo all you want, or freaking whatever you have to do. You need encouragement? Come here!

I want to know if that is true

I laugh because I will tell you what my weight was in 1991 when I did well in TKD.

5'11 @ 17 years old 165 lbs. Quick, fast, all of the above, you name it, I did all those fancy ass kicks (tornado's, double fronts, double rounds, etc.)

I can still do MOSt of those kicks and include a still impressive split between chairs that i can STILl do at 34.

but...

I feel Id still like to be 201 lbs with my BMI.

We have all been there before. I only laugh at tae-bo when I see the misinstruction of it as self defense for women, which is all too common around here. I have also seen firsthand how some of my friends have gotten into great shape doing it. Take it as a workout, nothing more.. and you will be fine, and in much better shape. Look into the Bas Rutten workout if you want something that burns calories and helps you work on your combos (send me a PM)

Okay, there has been a tae bo tape at the little second hand store here for a long time. After I saw your thread, I thought, hmmmm lets see... So I dropped the 50 cents on it and brought it home. My wife and I are in good shape, we train Lau Kune Do almost everyday, that tape kicked our ass ! Really, it is a good work out. We laughed and sweated and had a good time, together...

So who cares ! It gets you moving and incorporates some very good stuff. Who knows, we might do it again.. !

Thanks to everyone who's helped me get over feeling "stupid" about buying a Tae Bo tape. Like you all said, it is a really great workout and I've gotten a lot of encouragement and gained a lot of knowledge from here too. Thanks Guys!
