Gina didnt make weight
Was just reading at mmajunkie.com that Gina didn't make the 140(141)lbs limit. She came in at 144.5? This isnt the first time she had a hard time making weight is it?

A girl not making weight and a guy not making weight seems like a different kinda let down mentally.

well to me it doesnt look good on female mma if the "star" of the division can't even make the weight to fight on primetime T.V.
I just happen to see this and thought ppl might be interested.

That's a standard offer from sanctioning bodies to the opponent of a fighter that misses weight. Sometimes it can be as much as 15% of the purse.
What's stupid about this is that Gina fought some of her earlier fights at 145, a more standard weight across MMA. The best female MMA class in the world is 135. But EliteXC created the 140 class just for her and twice now she has not made it. I fault EliteXC/Gary Shaw as much as I fault Gina. It was hoped that females like Shayna Baysler and more importantly Tara LaRosa would be willing to come up to 140 for the chance at the larger Carano.

Yeah, no surprise there.
They need to find other big girls for Gina to fight, that weight class is too small for her. God forbid she goes and gets a breast reduction surgery one day to make weight.

I can't say I'm really surprised.
Also on mmajunkie it said that Young will probably get about 12% of Carano's purse.

probably not a big deal as the announcers could easily gloss over that the weight was not made, as they hope to bring in casual fans, of course the hardcore watchers are pissed but the audience in general should be fine and not really hear about it.

Honestly is anyone surprised by this? As has been said the 140 weight class was likely made for her and that's still a tough cut. Coming off her very limited training camp i was all but sure this was going to happen. Like many others i've been wrestling with putting some cash on Young because of the ridiculous lines and all the circumstances against Gina. But i really don't know woman's MMA well enough to bet.
Clearly something here needs to change though. Gina needs to not make promises she knows she can't fulfill. This is a professional sport. Shaw obviously only cares about the money so he's not going to change anything. The athletic commissions needs to start treating this guy like the piece of trash he is.
