Dana White Appreciation Thread
Seriously after watching that abortion on CBS tonight can we please just take a minute and stop to appreciate Dana White? Refuses to give up any kind of production control to any major network and has the best organization in the world.
Thank you Dana White for being President of the UFC and holding your ground.

Yeah, that was pretty poor production, but that's the way all the EliteXC events have been.
There are some things Dana has done that piss me off but by and large he's done a tremendous job of building the best organization in the world with the best talent on the planet.

I'm just glad that there will be a WEC card tomorrow night to get this sour taste out of my mouth.

Wow, I really thought there was some good fights w/ the exception of the hint of biasm in the Kimbo fight which was still an ok fight.
The production really lacked w/ all of the smoke and the WWE like entrances w/ the girls dancing on the stage. I honestly dont care about all that stuff and it does not bother me but for the casual viewer all that stuff will appear very gimmicky. The worst PR move of the night was when they purposely pointed out that the guy that started the card off actually KO-ed the guy in the main event that was fighting Kimbo.
The bottom line is I love MMA and the fights made up for all of the gimmicky crap for me.....

Yeah, I think tonight, we saw exactly what not necessarily Dana said, but many have said.
If you don't hav a quality production with quality fighters? It all goes haywire.
And you can argue quality of UFC reject fighters all you want. But tonight, you saw how BADLY those rejects represented the sport and added to the black eye of MMA to the general public.

I actually like Dana White, he's a great business man and the reason why UFC has come where it is. He knows how to pitch fight cards right.

Other orgs want to send MA back to the "IDIOT" days of backdoor brawling, and that's what was just shown tonight on NETWORK TV to represent the sport.
Those that thought THE UFC DOESENT KNOW WHAT ITS DOING?
Hahaha
At least now ON NATIONAL TV we SAW Elite XC brings MMA back another 10 years because of its antics.
Thanks Elite XC for screwing up the progress MMA made BECAUSE OF THE UFC AND GODDAMN PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT THE UFC WAS THE ENEMY!
If MMA dies ANOTHER DEATH?
It's because of you!
You all just reinforced what people already think about MMA.

Don't call any athlete a reject, regardless of what promotion they fight for. This is considered fighter bashing and is very disrespectful of the athletes.

Sorry, but there is probably a team of geeky kids in some back closet of the UFC offices that deserve the credit for putting together the UFC events. Dana just looks at what they do and says yea or nay. I never really pay attention to the quality of production anyway. I wanna see good fights. Gina/Kaitlin and Smith/Lawler were good fights and the Kimbo/Thompson fight surprised me somewhat. Granted two of those were premature stoppages IMO, but EliteXC has no control over that.

I have a great amount of the respect and appreciation for what Dana White has done for the UFC, and MMA.
This is a guy since becoming president, who has fought for the legitimacy and credibility of the sport state-by-state. Yes, he did this all for the UFC, but the sanctioning, marketing and popularity of MMA created a golden road for other organizations to walk on.
And unless Dana got Yakuza involved in Pride, and had its TV deal taken away, I don't see how he is responsible for its self-destruction.

Accountability always starts at the top, and thus so should praise. At the end of the day, Dana may not have much to do with the lighting, the fight card, or the other non-business related aspects of fight night, but he hired the guy who hired the guy that hired the guy that did, and as such, he's partially responsible for any success or failure that his company endures. It's called being the President.
WAR Dana! Can't wait to see you dropping F-Bombs tomorrow in regards to this card

Good point! In another forum there's an article about the UFC trying to get MMA legalized in New York, and how much money Dana and the Fertitas are spending to make it happen.
Didn't see Gary Shaw's name anywhere in regards to those costs, but you can be sure he'll be putting on shows in New York if Dana opens the door for him.

Yakuza is involved in every industry in Japan, from the major zaibatsus to the vending machine market. That's not what made me angry about Dana. From point 1, Dana was not to be made in charge of PRIDE Re: Fertittas. He was. He did little to nothing to get PRIDE back on their feet, claiming nobody wanted to work with a quote 'tainted product'. However, DREAMs and Sengoku are on TV in Japan, DREAMs having a TV slot at that. UFCs promotion in Japan was always weak, using WOWOW instead of the standard Bs-SKY Sattelite system. They let the WOWOW contract expire, and AFAIK are still not on television in Japan.
Dana let down lots of fight fans, and is generally grandiose in his self absorption. He has done little for helping Zuffa grow, and continues to perpectuate the Zuffa myth that THEY, rather than NJSAC created the Unified Rules. He has nothing to do with the matchmaking process, that is Joe Silva and others. Basically, he acts like the UFCs success is all about what he has done, when really it isnt. I hate seeing someone try to take credit for anothers hard work.

Who was responsible for hiring Joe Silva? So who gets the credit for that?
And who went to the NJSAC with the question of "how do we make this socially acceptable and get sanctioning?"
I think you know the answer. And the statement that "He has done little for helping Zuffa grow" is one of the biggest misstatements I've ever heard. Either you're uninformed, or you're lying.

I think the show tonight was a good free show and that is how UFC started anyway with poor PR, announcers etc. I think Elite XC tonight was good and can't wait for the next one to come. UFC is still the top MMA show right now but in a couple of years and new talent maybe Elite XC will rise up to really compete with UFC.
