Default Anderson Silva To Move Up To LHW?!

Quote:
They hadn’t decided [Chuck Liddell's UFC 88 opponent] as of the weekend but Mauricio Shogun Rua wasn’t to be available until December they thought so he was out. They’ll probably make the call after this weekend’s show. He promised an announcement that will blow people’s minds on Thursday. Don’t necessarily read anything into this as being the announcement, but I do know that they have talked with Anderson Silva about being on the card and fighting at light heavy and he wasn’t opposed to it, but there was nothing agreed to as of last week. He said he’s renting out a place on Thursday to tell his employees so in theory this had better be bigger than that.

Anderson Silva May Move Up To Light Heavyweight, Fight Liddell At UFC 88 | MMAFrenzy.com
So if this happens, what is going to become of the MW belt? Is Anderson going to defend his title again in 08? Don't get me wrong here though Silva vs.
Liddell sounds like a heck of a match but in my opinion it just isn't fair to put another belt on hold yet again.

Also this is quite a dangerous match for Liddell. Silva is a precise striker and could possibly KO him which would be pretty bad. If he wins, no biggy cause Silva is a MW fighter and Liddell out weighed him. On the other hand if Liddell
loses the chances of him regaining another shot at the title are very slim.

Instead of all this BS about people moving up and down and challenging other champs, which would really screw things up IMO, they should do a yearly OWGP with a massive prize. Obviously they couldn't do it Pride style because of injury suspensions but they need to figure something out, as this topic keeps coming up.

Exciting match up, but why would Anderson want to move up in weight to fight someone who isnt even the champ? OK Chuck's a legend and a huge name, but surely if Anderson was gonna take the risk and move up it might as well be against Rampage, which obviously isnt gonna happen. Also LHWs too stacked at the moment for the UFC to risk their MW champ, why not throw someone like Thiago Silva or Machida in there with Chuck?

If this happens expect chuck to be dominated in every aspect of the sport. Anderson Silva might lose b breaking his hands on chucks face but other then that i see this being a slow beatdown of the old man. I am not saying Anderson is going to finish it instantly but i doubt check will ever even land much of a punch. Keep in mind i am the driver of the "Anderson Silva is more over rated then Chuck ever was bandwagon" Chuck just doesnt have the skill set the Anderson does.

That's lame. Why would the UFC try to put this fight together when the fans (including Wanderlei Silva) would want to see GSP vs Anderson Silva more than any other champ match-up?

BOOOOOO!

I like the idea of a yearly Open Weight Tournament.

Anderson needs to sit tight and let challengers' come to him in whatever form. This guy earned the spotlight, and should enjoy it for awhile.

Some think that may be Dana's big announcement. Esp with all the fighters from Pride, like Wanderlei who thrive in those tournaments.

Maybe an October OWGP, In the UFC? Knows. I know I'd be excited for it. WOuld love to see a Wanderlei vs Anderson Silva, or a Hendo vs Vera. Or a Tito vs. Bj Penn!

haahahah.. It'd be grand.

This is'nt going to happen. There's no point in it. Sure it'd be a great fight but it would have absolutely nothing to do with either the 185 or 205 title picture. Its also certainly not big enough news to warrant being a HUGE anouncement by Dana White. Whatever Dana has to say goes beyond the boundries of the current UFC.

I really don't see the logic of this fight, and last article I read, neither do Anderson's trainers.

I love Anderson, but feel he should stay where he's at. I don't know if the quicks and slipperiness he has @ MW, would automatically translate to the same @ LHW.

I remember at the UFC 83 fight club preweigh in interview with Dana that he was pretty clearly against open weight tournament in the UFC. Doubt this will happen.

F
Incorrect. Anderson and Wanderlei have both said even though they are ex-training partners, and are friends who remain on good terms, they would be willing to fight each other if the opportunity presented itself.

I guess I have to ask, how is Anderson overrated?

Simply because MW is a weak division? That's the only rationale I can think of.

Why do you all say it would be a great fight? Chuck would lose in rd 1. Badly I think. I guess that would be entertaining though..

Yeah ,but it wouldn't look weak if Anderson Silva wasn't in it. I mean most people ultimatley compare any mw fighter to Silva, cause he's the belt holder.
