Worst Heavy weight Champion.
I know that there have been more than one.Just to mention one of the most recent years I think that John Ruiz don't have anything in his style, strategy, defense, charisma, etc... that atracts the fans of boxing except that he is latino (Puerto Rican).
I remember it was only one time that I watch his fight with great expectation because I didn't know who he was.
Sorry. He si one the worst.

Too bad for you John Ruiz is a two-time-champion.
I think it is not easy to say who the worst champions are/were. Based on style, accomplishments, personality ... ??
Personally I think the Klitschkos fit this category. Vitali kept talking about Lennox Lewis, how he retired him, how scared he was ..... He won the vacant title, defended it against Danny Williams, had the title for another year without any defence, his fight with Rahman got postponed three or four times due to "injuries" (How come it always are injuries? Against Byrd, Lewis, Rahman? Maybe he is unbeatable when healthy? That must be it, right?), and he retires. I rewatched Sanders - Rahman last night. I am convinced Klitschko was scared of Hasim.
Hasim Rahman retired Vitali Klitschko!
How about Herbie Hide and Bruce Seldon? Their "chins" were not the greatest at all.
No offence, only posting my personal opinion.

Interesting topic.
I agree with both picks thus far, further illustrating how weak the heavyweight division is in the current era. I never thought Vitali was all that good and in fact, Wladimir had better actual boxing skills. Too bad Wladimir's 'heart' is so weak. Vitali has some decent wins on his resume, but none as the champ. There is no logical reason why Danny Williams earned that shot other than Vitali wanted to keep the title. And to retire off an injury (ACL tear) that is easily fixed in time was very weak. NBormally I don't buy the "he is scared" theories when it comes to professional fighters, but seeing brother Wladimir's performances which smack of fear, I just don't know what to think about Vitali.
Ruiz is just terrible. Beating Rahman was his biggest accomplishment. Its not even worth mentioning his terrible deeats as I've done before. He is certainly the weakest 2x champ in history.
There are so many weak champs in history once the titles fractured. Guys like Tony Tubbs, Trevor Berbick, Pinklon Thomas, etc. They were all weak champs IMO.
But one Heavyweight Champ with a big name would be Michael Spinks. Don't get me wrong, he was a great Light Heavyweight Champ. In fact, looking at his record, he may just be one of the very best Light Heavyweight Champs of all time, he was that good. But as a Heavyweight champ with a lot of notariety at the time, he was very weak. He beat an aging Larry Holmes twice, including a split decision in the rematch. He then defended against Steffen Tangstad! Though the guy sported a 24-1 record, he had fought absolutely no one other than Joe Bugner. Not even close to being worthy of a world title shot. Spinks then beat Gerry Cooney, a guy who while very nice, was extremely overrated. Finally, his final defense was the 91 second debacle against Tyson. The biggest thing I took from this fight was the look of fear in Spinks' eyes as soon as the opening bell sounded. It was obvious he wanted no part of Tyson. Like I pointed out, I have a very hard time believing a professional fighter is scared of another, otherwise they wouldn't be in the sport. But there are the rare cases and Spinks vs Tyson was certainly one of them.

BULL & GYGAZ.
Bull, I respect your opinions. I take your words supported by your knowledge and I also recognize that you are a great fan of the boxing sport.
About Ruiz just remember how dull his fights have been.
Gygax, you are right about M. Spinks: He just came in like the foam on the beach and than it is gone.
Again, I respect you guys.

Bull, I really don't understand why you would rate either Klitschko as a "Worst". Certainly neither one can be called the best, but look at their records! Knockout after knockout for both brothers, and the size to intimidate most any fighter. And you think Vitali was afraid of Hasim? Right. Hasim was destroyed by Lewis, and Vitali "beat" Lewis. Yes, Lewis won the match, but Vitali clearly won the fight. I guess my main point is that the absolutly cannot be called "Bad", and when they are having a good night, they are both really fun to watch.

Rahman beat both Sanders and Lewis convincingly (Lewis won the rematch as he was about as focussed as it gets). Vitali lost to Lewis, was getting his faced ripped off and was running scared against Sanders. Vitali Klitschko is one of the few boxers who were stopped by Chris Byrd, he quit! Please, no shoulder injury story: official punch stats after nine rounds (he claimed he hurt his shoulder in the third) - Klitschko 132/502, Byrd 124/284. These numbers are speaking for themselves. Every loss of them is being excused, I am sick of it. Wladimir Klitschko was "down" twelve times in his professional career.

Thank you kerubee, I respect you, too.
