Default Anthony Johnson vs Burns

WOW talk about controversial. I am not a Johnson fan but even I think that was a bad call. Should of been at least a NC.

I was thinking NC as well. I was in shock when they called it TKO.

I was thinking DQ, because of all the warnings, was surprised that Burns won.

correct me if Im wrong but isnt it the ref who called it a TKO. He was poked in the eye sooo many times...Johnson showed a lot of class I thought when he told the crowd to stop booing Burns and didnt cry foul about the decision

That was just embarrassing. Something really needs to be done already. Send the judges to school...send the refs to school. It's time.

I'm pretty sure it is the ref's call. Mazagatti strikes again.

My take on it is " It's not the judges this time. The REF called the fight. And sadly it was a just call. If a ref does not see an infraction he can't CALL IT. yOU COULDN'T TELL IT WAS AN EYE POKE TILL THEY RESHOWED IT AND WAS SLOWED WAY DOWN. Sorry about the cap locks. My bad. I'm all for it being a disqualification. But if the ref didn't see it he can't call it. No replays in MMA fighting. The judges had nothing to do with it and the ref decision can't be over turned. Or I never seen it happen anyhow. It was a bad call but it also was hard to see in real time. I hate it for Anthony J. I never liked him but he actually won some respect for his action after this fight. Anthony I grew up 25 miles north of you . Keep up the good work. WarDawg

so I guess you're saying Mazzagatti should've been watching the fight...the poke...ok he missed that one (after the several already done)...then he missed AJ's reaction.

Maybe, just maybe they should get refs who pay attention.

My question is, is if his hand has been broken 3 times & he cant close it to throw a punch then how many times will this eye poke crap happen with an open palm strike?

They may need to remove him from fighting which would suck cause the guy has skills & a very solid chin but mma doesnt need anymore controversy.

Don't read to much into my post. I didn't see a eye poke when it was real time. Are you saying you saw the poke ? I thought it was a knock down from an upper cut. Not till the fight was stopped and they reshowed it I saw it was a bad eye poke. The ref can not stop the fight and look at replays then resume action. I hated it happened. But it is what it is . A bad situation . I don't think it was intentional. WD

No I didn't see the poke but I saw the weird reaction and if I'm the ref, I certainly don't give the victory to someone who didn't deserve it...at all.

Out of curiosity, couldn't the ref's decision be overturned by the ref? Couldn't have Mazagatti changed his original decision of a TKO to a NC or DQ?

I'm thinking yes...I've seen plenty of "conferences" before a final decision is rendered. If you're confused...ask...or get educated.

I felt the same , I dint see the poke til the replay and idk if steve did aswell, I rly think they should inpose something for this kind of situation. I feel it unfair to call him a winner after that. I also agree with the fact that steve may not have seen it during real time therefor cannot bag on him for it....

not quite sure how to fix this kind of thing as of yet but rly i dont think he should have got the W

just my 2 cents

If the ref can change his original decision, he should have. With that said I don't think it was clear what happened in real time and the over dramatic reaction from Johnson only made it harder to tell. Clearly signaling he was poked in the eye would have been better that the 180 belly flop.

Actually the scream from the eye poke made me instantly realize he had been poked in the eye, plus the fact that he immediately grabbed his eye. I wasnt even in the octagon and I knew pretty quickly. When AJ told him he was poked in the eye and it was closed and swollen and after he had done poked multiple times already he could have changed his call b/4 it was official.....

Johnson earned far more respect from me in this loss than he did in his wins. He showed great restraint and class after getting royally screwed in this fight.

I was pulling against Johnson because of his antics after earlier wins. But IMO this fight should have been ruled a DQ and Johnson the winner. Burns had been warned multiple times already, and I swear the fingers in the eye looked almost on purpose to me. Either way, he was warned multiple times and did it again. Maz is not much of a ref imho. He just misses too much stuff. With those squinty eyes he probably needs some glasses.
