That's awesome news. Although some will be upset that he isn't fighting Matt. I'm just excited for an awesome matchup. Because that is definitely what this will be.

P.S. Where is it on the site? Sorry if I'm an idiot. Couldn't see it anywhere.

Scroll half way down the front page and you'll see a pic of GSP. Click the interview above the pic. Then fast forward in the interview and GSP's interview starts around the 2:14 point. His talk about BJ is around the 2:19 mark..

This will be a great fight. Being a huge GSP fan I really think he deserves to fight Matt first. Then have BJ fight him down the road. But I won't complain too much about it. It should be an awesome fight. GSP says he's pretty disappointed because he really wanted Hughes, but he's gonna do what the UFC wants. He said he is glad that BJ did come back because he still see's Penn as a Champion and he wants to beat him. It didn't say what UFC card this is going to be on.

On a side note Matt Hughes was trash talking GSP saying that his win versus Sherk was not impressive. Go figure................

I am glad that I will get to see this match, but sad that GSP wont get another shot at Hughes.

Here is what the UFC has listed, but maybe they have not updated their website to reflect the Georges "Rush" St-Pierre versus BJ "The Prodigy" Penn match-up...

Interesting that GSP is wanting to go to France to get his black belt in Karate. It would go nicely with his ring entrance outfit. Also, GSP's English is greatly improved. At 2:19:18 on that linked file, GSP says he will fight BJ Penn next. Rush said that he was "upset about that" when asked if that was what he wanted. But that was after he said that he wanted Hughes. And, Hughes said he was not "overly impressed" with GSP's match versus Sean Sherk...

this BLOWS.. the UFC is shielding hughes yet again when he is supposed to fight.... i love watching hughes and am a fan, but he doesnt fight from ufc 52 till 56... now they are skipping him again.. it really should be GSP hughes without a doubt... hughes will roll right over karo without a doubt if that fight happens... kinda angry about this matchup because also the loser of GSP penn is out of it for awhile and both deserve shots.... just kinda protects hughes for awhile

Nah, I can understand this. However, if the winner doesn't fight Hughes, I can't possibly think of any explanation as to why that wouldn't happen.

Karo should fight Hughest so gets his match while GSP and Penn fight.

so now, what about predictions?

gsp right now is in a better shape....in my opinion he beated better fighters in the last year...but bj penn beated hughes so for that i got to give him a good chance of winning the fight, i think he can do the samething to gsp, so gsp needs to be ready, if gsp can control the fight he will win , and he will, then he'll get the title shot hes deserving cause there is NO MORE contenders he'll have to face except if dana white want to protect his champion matt hughes for another year

The only thing I dislike about GSP fans is they keep saying Matt Hughes is ducking someone. Heck he beat GSP. He dominated a very quick fight. Took GSP down and put him on his back several times. No problem. Then armbarred him. Tap out ....... Now first of all I like GSP. Alot. But Matt Hughes ducks nobody, that Im aware of. Will GSP find a way to beat matt H in there next fight ??? Maybe. But till you beat the man, you ain't the man. Give Matt Hughes the respect he deserves as Champion. WarDawg

I don't think anyone said Hughes was ducking anyone they are saying Dana don't want to see him lose and I think GSP is the one to do it I don't think Hughes thinks anyone can beat him. When you have a Title as long as Matt has you should be thinking you can beat anyone when you doubt a fight you lose that fight that is why he is champ.

I think Dana is haveing GSP fight Penn so he can beat Penn so Penn don't get the title shot

It's a battle between two top guys at 170. I don't care about the politics of this move. It'll be a damn good match and the winner better get Hughes.

If GSP beats penn................then he is the unofficial champion, and champion of the people. Because if you think about it,Penn already beat Matt, So if GSP beats him, then he is the champ.

So what about the time Matt already beat GSP? Your logic is off.

No a victory over Penn will not make GSP a champion. He would have to beat Matt. Penn isn't the champion. He lost the belt because he broke the rules and couldn't defend it. By your logic Trigg should be the champion of the people because he beat Hallman and he submitted Hughes twice.

Matt Hughes is the champion at 170lbs. No one else. Regardless of what BJ may think. And the ONLY way to become champion is to beat Hughes.

Actually BJ still has the belt sitting with him at home. He never lost so he is still the champ!

I don't care about all the politics of this fight. I just want to see another awesome WW fight. And we shant be disappointed.

yea its a great fight and itll be great to watch... i do care about the politics.. i dont like that matt hughes is being so protected and getting to hold the title longer,, he should have to fight GSP now, and penn should have to fight someone first then get a shot at the winner...

I understand where your coming from but I don't think it has anything to do with Matt. He doesn't make those decisions. And he was supposed to have a title shot last month but all this weird crap happened, Karo getting hurt, and Riggs not making weight. It will happen eventually and it's not like BJ is an undeserving fighter or anything. If Georges beats him than that will settle any of the disputes about the "real" champ and all that nonsense.

Now what happens if GSP gets beat by Penn? where does that leave him ? Fighting drew fickett and Edwinn Dewee's ??? Im just being a smart ass . But yall see what Im saying. Don't act like someone stole something from GSP. He fought Matt and LOST. He does deserve another chance. He is the number one contendor in my book. But numbers 1's don't always get the first shot. Fact..... GSP and Penn should be a great fight. Penn can beat him. Don't take him lightly. This is looking to be a great year. WD
