I think that GSP said it best himself. Penn might have worked hard in that fight, but his hard work was no match for GSP's talented hard work. What GSP had to overcome from the first round was difficult. That eye poke would have caused many lesser fighters to lose. GSP took this fight away from Penn and made this GSP's fight. He won with true hard work.
