Its Official GSP gets his Title Shot!
Its official GSP's next fight will be for the Title! Note sure of a date or location next, but damn that guy deserves it! Hopefully Hughes wont get to jacked up against Gracie so the title fight will happen sooner! What happens if Gracie beats Hughes? I know its not for the Title but it will cause controversy, and you know Gracie will want the belt. Is he on a multi fight contract with UFC or just a single fight? Anyway go GSP!!

He does deserve it. Don't think he's going to take it, but he's fought hard and climbed the ladder. I think it'll be a good fight, I just don't think he's going to beat Matt Hughes. I personally think that Gracie is more of a threat to Matt than GSP, but I am probably the only guy who thinks that way on FightForum. My understanding with Gracie is that it is a one fight deal, but I too think if he beats Matt he'll want a title shot. I think Gracie is going to be a true test for Matt Hughes.

I think he gets more fights win/lose/draw. Gracie's name alone puts butts in seats and get more ppv sales, but especially if he wins.

Yeah. This isn't news. They made it clear that the title shot w/ Hughes was written into the GSP-Penn contract, and that the fight would happen in August or September. I can't wait.

Royce doesn't fight on a regular basis though. He's been retired for a long time basically just fighting for fun/money now and then. This may just be a one fight deal and nothing to really become of it win or lose.

Yeah but remember when Lindland was promised a title shot by Dana face to face on several occasions? Be on your best behavior Georges, they're watching you!

Very true, but this time it's in a contract. Lindland got treated like dog crap by the UFC, while GSP is their golden boy. Georges gives Dana everything he could possibly want in a champ, while Lindland wasn't the marquee star that Dana wanted.

Gracie=UFC...if he wants more fights he'll get them. There'd be no UFC if it weren't for the Gracies.

No doubt about that. You'll get no argument from me. I'm just saying basically the same thing. He'll just fight when he wants but I don't think he has big plans to fight on a regular basis. I agree with everything else you said though. Gracie will be able to sell a PPV regardless of the outcome of this fight.

Gsp
It would be crazy to say that Hughes can't win the rematch, but I think GSP will have his number this time round and will pull it off. In any case, Royce vs Hughes and GSP vs Hughes 2 should be two awesome fights!

i think that if hughes were to lose to gracie in his next fight, he'd come out absolutely on fire against gsp. i think hughes will have a tough time with both of these fights...im not saying he will lose either, but its very possible.

Well they just announced it during a press confrence, so it was news to me, especially with the gracie fight thrown in the middle

ya, the gracie fight is an exhibition that the ufc is billing as a battle between the two greatest ufc champions, thats all. its a fight thats being used to sell ppv's and its also a fight that i think a lot of fans, both old and new, will be glued to come fight time.
