The age old question... Prime Ali vs. Prime Tyson?
What do you guys think? I hear a lot of people who don't really know what they're talking about listening to hype and not reasoning saying Ali would knock out Tyson w/o any problems. However, I think that Ali didn't fight any fighters like Tyson. I also hear a lot of people run their mouths about how Tyson didn't have any stamina and was a wild hitter and what not, and I also have to disagree w/ this. What do you all think?

i think ali would have just out classed or out smarted tyson... i haven't seen many ali fights but the ones i did he would win by putting his opponent in a position where he felt he had to fight desperately. now we all kno wthat when tyson gets desperate he stops moving and gets knocked the **** out

I think that Tyson would beat Ali. Ali can take on people with less power and he can take on people with alot of power and no speed. But Tyson had speed and ALOT of power. We saw what happened to Ali against Joe Frazier. I think Tyson would come out the winner.

Ali didn't experience too many flying left hooks or devastating body flurries back in the day like Tyson would have put on him.

u guys are nuts....
Tyson would just be out boxed. Ali would jab until Tyson wore his self out, sometime in the 5th round. Then Ali would just pound Tyson until there would be nothing left.
Although, we will never know. You could ask this question a 100 different times in a 100 different ways and you would always get the same results. 50/50. 50% say Ali was just too good and 50% would say Tyson too strong.

Well I have a very high amount of respect for both fighters, and I understand both sides of the argument... and what it comes down to is both fighters biggest advantages.
Tyson- Speed and Power, we've seen it a million times... hes an animal.
Ali- I think hes a smarter fighter, I can see him making Tyson chase him and take shots to tire him out and then capitilizing on a mistake.
But it's not a sure thing, what it would come down to is who was having the better day, one day tyson could go in there and rip his head off and another day ali could get tyson to gas himself out and just put him down.

Ali would win easy. He dropped monters. The biggest thing Tyson is know for is losing against Holyfield, and then biting his ear because he was losing again. Yeah, Tyson was good, but the caliber of fighters that Ali dropped was impressive. Tyson cannot compete.

I get so sick of this thread, but I can't help myself. Mike Tyson never was or will be in the same league as Muhammad Ali. Mike Tyson did not beat anyone remotely close to the level of competition that Ali did. Name me three great fighters, no name me ONE great fighter, in his prime, that Mike Tyson beat. Ali beat everybody who was anybody in his day. And, in his day, the Heavyweights were LOADED with great fighters. And, "We saw what happenend to Ali against Joe Frazier?" What the heck are you talking about? Ali and Frazier fought three times. Joe won the first fight between them, and Ali beat Frazier the last two. Not to mention, when they fought the first time, Ali hadn't been actively fighting because that was when he came off of his suspension for not enlisting in the Armed Forces when he was drafted. Had Ali been prime, like the last two fights, he'd probably beat Joe that time too. Once Cus D'mato, and Jacobs were gone any potential Mike had went right down the drain. Mike Tyson, at one time, had the tools to have been the greatest, but he lacks/lacked the mental capacity to do so. Ali, on the other hand, is probably the most intelligent fighter to ever step foot in the ring. Not to mention, his skills and speed as a boxer. ESPN Classic even did a top ten heavyweights of all time a while back. Tyson wasn't even in the top ten; while Ali was number one.

LOL, you're killing me. Tyson wasn't on the level of half the fighters that Ali beat. Had Mike Tyson fought when Ali fought, you'd never even have heard of Mike Tyson. Ali beat Legends! Whose Mike Tyson ever beaten? Anybody, with a lick of talent, can look like a world beater; when they fight bums or over the hill fighters. Had Ali fought in Tyson's time, Ali would have never lost a fight. He'd still be the champ, if he were Tyson's age.

LOL...no, he only let George Foreman beat on his body for six rounds or so. If you don't think George hits hard watch him hit the bag on footage from "Rumble in the Jungle," or better yet, look at how much power, at age 45, he generated with that short hook to Micheal Moorer's head...you know, the one that put him on the canvas and out for the count.

Iīm a preety big PRE-Jail Tyson fan, but letīs face it.. he never fought anybody like Muhammad Ali. I saw a post here about Ali never ever fighting somebody on Tysonīs level. Well, what level is that? Speed and Power? Well, George Foreman was the Tyson of the 70īs. He probably hit even harder than Tyson. The man made Frazier bounce off the canvas of the ring, and almost killed Norton. lol. Ali let Foreman play punching bag with him, came back and knocked him out. Iīm sorry if Buster Douglas can beat Tyson.. you think Ali canīt? I always stick up for Pre-Jail Tyson, when people want to make him look like a can or somebody who couldnīt fight.. but comparing him to Ali is going too far. Way to far.
People donīt really know what they are talking about when they think Ali couldnīt have beaten Tyson. Ali was probably the greatest fighter ever in his weight class, not only that.. what other boxer can you name, which predicted the rounds he would knock people out in? He played with boxers, likes kids do with PlayDoe.

Erm, Liston had power and speed, Frazier had power and speed, Norton has serious power and speed.. he beat all of them. George Foreman was nothing put pure power with good speed, he beat him too. Ali made boxers look slow, doesnīt mean they were actually slow.
And about Frazier, what do you mean? Which fight are you talking about, you know they fought 3 times right? Ali took 2 of them. Each one of those fights with Frazier was a 12-15 round war. Ali was undefeated the first 11 years of his Career, he lost 5 fights in 21 years. Look at the guys Ali fought, Mildenberger, Willams, Shaver, Patterson, Quarry, Spinks, Norton, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Mathis, Chuvalo.. man these guys are all legends in their own right.

Like Seiken, I'm a huge fan of Iron Mike ... pre-Don King! Once he separated from the training of D'Amato/Rooney and the management of Caytton/Jacobs, it really was all down hill. But before that, he was absolutely devastating. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to show his stuff against elite fighters of his generation before that decline started, including the ass kicking he got from Buster Douglas.
To say Ali never fought the best of competition is simply showing your lack of respect for the greats of that generation. Like Smashing Machine points out, Liston, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, etc, are all guys who were dominant heavyweights until they challenged Ali. Each would dominate todays heavyweight class.
For the record I am far from an Ali fan. I was a fan of Joe Frazier when I was a kid, so it goes without saying that I hated Ali. But there is no denying his greatness. He was simply magnificent and to me, the second greatest heavyweight champion in history. Joe Louis, the Brown Bomber, will always be the greatest to me.

Prime Tyson beats Prime Ali. Muhammad Ali was a smart boxer with great speed and good movement, but Tyson had a combination of determination, power and explosiveness which would have been just too much for Ali.
