Default Hope for Frank Mir

I think everyone needs to go watch Frank Mir's post fight interview on UFC.com.
He understands his problems, he is not happy with the fight, and it gives me hope that we will see the real Frank Mir in the near future, and the heavyweight division will once again have another strong contender.

Let's hope

Yeh I saw it.The positive thing is that he seemed to have a little bit of confidence. He even said that he would like to fight Kongo.I have a feeling the next Frank Mir we see will be totally different.

Cool Imo

I think he is done. I really don't really think he should of came back. We has had serious trama from the motor cycle accident and then I heard he had a stroke on top of that. He just doesn't have what it takes to be a champion, anymore. He pretty much admitted that with his diet before this last fight.

Im glad to see that he knows he needs more work and to put more effort into his comback. Since he was the UFC champion at his weight devision, he shouldnt settle for anything less than a championship comeback attempt. Anything less from him would be disapointing to both the fans and to himself. I hope he gets his workout programs down and sticks to his diet and comes back next fight in good shape and ready to do business.

I was at a boxing club talking to one of the trainers. He said that he was good friends with Mir and a couple months after the accident he had a stroke. I thought that everyone knew about it and maybe it was something that he was trying to keep quite or maybe the guy was lying. Who really knows. I never really thought about it before, but I just assumed it was true. I should of investigated it some more before I said anything.

Boy...I don't know about that one. I think Frank, at least physically, looked better in his first fight back. I just think it was a poor choice of opponents for a return. Not to mention, I think he fought Pe De Pano rather errantly. He's at the point where he needs to either sh#t or get off the pot with his fighting career.

I think that Mir should drop twenty-five pounds and come back as a fit and trimmed Mir. The way that he looked at the last PPV was awful. That was terrible. And, at the end it was just sad. Was that the Frank Mir we saw win a HW title? Is that Mir gone for good? Man, I hope not. He has to get it back in gear and get into proper shape. He better make a better showing of his next match.

I am wondering... It seemed like maybe Mir is still suffering from complications from his accident. Maybe he was just not able to train and work out. There could be problems with his leg that we are not getting any information about. We may have to accept that the Frank Mir we knew of before is gone forever.

I wanted to lay a good amount on Christison before the fight, but just couldn't see him winning. Thankfully, I didn't do it.

Why did I want to do that since I have always been a big fan of Mir? He was thrown out of the Las Vegas Combat Club a few weeks before the fight due to lack of training. According to multiple reports, his own trainer told him he should not fight since he was not training properly and skipping workouts constantly.

I'm afraid we've seen the last of Mir as a contender.

Yeah, I remember reading on MMAweekly a while back that one of the big knocks on Mir throughout his career has been that he "half-asses it in training" or something to that effect. Remember even when he was up and coming he still had a problem with gassing out.

I think we've seen the last of the 'old' Frank Mir. After his loss to Cruz he was saying he was going to train harder and come back better but that loss obviously wasnt enough to motivate him, so I really cant see a close decision victory giving him that hunger to train. Shame to see so much talent go to waste.

I think Christison doesn't deserve a lot of the disrespect he gets. Granted the guy is in no way a top contender in the HW division, but he's no chump. He beat Brad Imes both on the feet and on the ground which is something Rashad didn't do. Rashad squeeked out that win. And i think he should have won that decision against Mir. Dude has a lot of learning to do still, but not more than some of the other TUF alumni.

That fight was like watching two walruses fight over a female on National Geographic channel. Two huge bodies in frikkin' slow-motion. Hopefully Christison will go to the undercard and Mir will get his act together or retire. I actually thought big Dan should have won the decision.

If Mir/Christison was Frank's first appearance in the UFC, they'd be equal targets for disrespect. But Mir has a lot of fans because he was champ once, and Christison will never be. Sure, Christison beat Imes, but Imes has no real fighting skills. He's just a big athletic football player who wants to fight. I'm really not looking forward to seeing Christison fight anyone, but then I don't generally enjoy watching slow giants fight.
