British Fighters
With the expanding sport here in the UK, the UFC must be opening its eyes to the prospec of more UFC fighters coming from the UK, fighters such as Ian freeman, Micheal Bisping and Mark Weir have proved that they can mix it up with the fighters in the USA as well as anyone else, although it is a new sport here much newer than most other countries the UK fight scene has developed greatly shows such as Cage Rage and Cage Warriors are producing some seriously good fighters, i think the UFC should take a look into these shows and bring in a wider variety of UK fighters, it will prove both marketable, fincially gaining, inexpensive and will also bring in a wealth of talent.

Ian Freeman did fight in the UFC and was actually beaten by everyone's idol, Arlovski. but yes, you are right, the UK is full of MMA events, fighter's and gyms. i was amazed at the numbers when i was reading a british MMA magazine called Fighter's Only, its editor is actually Ian Freeman.

I think UFC definately realise this, they've already had UK auditions for TUF2 (obviously!), then Dana's announced that they're going to be promoting an event over here, plus he always pops up at Cage Rage every now and then so Im sure as more top level British fighters come through then the UFC will recognise this and we'll start to see them on an international scale.

You guys seem knowledgeable about the UK fight scene. Any idea why Ross Pointon was selected as the UK MW rep for TUF3? Is he considered one of the better fighters in the UK? Or maybe they were looking at his personality, fighting style etc?

I wonder that about the US tryouts too. Some of those guys looked so outclassed on the show. How do some of them make it

this puzzled me, i think the UFC only brought in ross based upon his attitude they wanted a non ***** who would fight the devil if he could, the UK has better MW fighters
galesic is 13 -1 -0 but he is croation/british, i think they wanted a unique british fighter. Paul Daley could step up and also james Nicolls to name a few there are bound to be more these gusy all hve better records than ross

I think knowing they were going to be opening an office in UK they didn't want to show all that talent on TUF. Bisping is pretty dominant so they knew he'd be impressive, and like some have said Pointon had the personality to draw ratings. I haven't seen these other guys mentioned, but i'm sure we'll see most of them during the first UK UFC show. There was no need for the UFC to put all their eggs in one basket on this one.

Yes, I've heard several times that they are going to open an office in the UK. Not sure about the details though.

I think Pointon got picked simply because the UFC figured he would be good for an entertaining fight or too, since he likes to come out throwing bombs. I also think that's the same reason Josh Haynes got on the show.

im not sold on Bisping at all. i've seen alot of support for him and im wondering if its more because he's a Brit then a good fighter. no doubt he was one of the better fighters in that house but i dont really see him being a dominate force in the UFC. just my opinion really im not hating on him cuz i like the guy but i think some people are getting a little to hype on him.

Giving the apparent lack of quality competition in the Light Heavyweight division for that show, I don't know what to expect of Bisping. I didn't feel like I could get any read on him. The TUF 1 and 2 cast seemed to have better quality fighters in their respective divisions.

we have alot of hype about him in Britain ( well as much to be expected considering the coverage of MMA) but why woudl it matter in the USA, if you are from the UK then i agree kindov but thats a british thing hype up ur own, is it the same in america?

There's no way it was weaker than the heavyweight class of Season 2.

You mean against Eugene Jackson? Man that was a sweet KO, Weir's limbs were just all over the place lol. I think at the time that was the quickest UFC knockout too.

It wouldn't be the first UK UFC show, as UFC 38-'Brawl At The Hall' was over here in London, July 2002. Was a HUGE fightcard too.

Yeah he got stopped by Loiseau's elbows in their fight, Weir was out cold.
They often show fights from UFC38 on Unleashed. I was watching the Freeman/Mir fight a few days ago.
