Mike Tyson
After watching the Mike Tyson clip in the boxing section, I think the Fight forum needs to remove this freak off the banner on the top of the page....The man is a sick individual that sure appears twisted. If you havnt seen it its rather disturbing. Man throw Tito, Hughes, Gsp, or someone like that on the picture board instead of a convicted Rapist, freakshow. By the way Im not bashing... just watch the video.

Well this a forum about fighting and combat, not about there personal lives. Tyson was an excellent boxer and deserves to be on that banner. Tyson is just a guy that doesn't give a **** about what other people think. Speaks his mind and dont care what other people think. I respect that but would totally understand why others wouldnt. Of coarse he doesn't rape children or anything he just did it to piss people off wich he obviously did to you...piss you off and discust you.
PS this should be moved to boxing section or somewhere else this has nothing to do with the UFC.

I agree with ChuckSmasher. It's not about personal lives, but there comes a point when enough is enough. He does not deserve to be posted on this site, and it's not just his personal life...it's crap he's pulled in/around the ring too. I'm glad Lennox beat him like the freak he is.

Tyson in his prime was pound for pound the best, there is no one in the history of the sport who he wouldn't put through hell, again in his prime.
I really don't care if his face is up here, but there could be other boxers instead..

I agree with thecreewarrior, Mike Tyson may be an a**hole but that doesn't change the fact that he is one of the greatest boxers of all time, and since this forum is about the fighting itself and not the personal lives of the fighters, it doesn't bother me that his face is up there among some of the other greats.

Tyson in his prime didn't even make ESPN's and Bert Sugar's top ten Heavy-weights of all time...he was a joke to anybody with skills and in their prime.

i respect his ability, and what he acheived at a young age, but theres a line he crossed when he says stuff like that, he was a pro and should be able to behave better, like it or not hes was a role model and whatever faith he is now he should practise the actual faith and not just call himself a muslim/born again christian, whatever he is these days.

I respect what Tyson did in the ring, other than eating his opponents body part. He was the youngest HW champ ever and he had the natural ability, skill, speed, and power of one of the greatest boxers ever. I also respect the ability of a prize fighting pit-bull. Its one of the most natural gladiators on the planet, its entire body is almost designed to fight, much like Tyson. The comparison Im making here is on a behavioral level. Without someone "holding the leash" so to speak, such as Tyson's late trainer Cus D'amato, neither should be let out in public and has to be watched. After D'amato died, Tyson started his slow decline to where we see him today. He is probably one of the saddest examples of a sports icon I can think of other than maybe Daryl Strawberry. All the talent, heart, and raw fighting ability almost seems wasted now. If he was of right mind or was able to make proper decisions, imagine where he would be today or what his record would be like. I highly doubt it would be 50-6-0-2.

Everything that needs to be said about Tyson the boxer (as opposed to Tyson the personal mess) was covered in the thread over in the boxing section that compared the merits of Tyson and Ali as heavyweight champions. I'm trying to avoid the same debate starting up in the UFC section where it doesn't belong, but COME ON! Tyson has NEVER been the greatest pound-for-pound, and his legacy in the ring is all about wasted potential and the Don King hype machine. There's a reason why no credible boxing experts have him down on their list of top HW champs of all time. Those of you who think he belongs on there have been suckered in by the hype and too many of his HL vids where he's KO'ing nobodies with losing records.
Please.

I agree, I dont think he belongs in the top 10. I do however think he was one of if not the most naturally gifted boxer ever and that he more or less wasted it all. If he had the proper influences in his life and had a better head on his shoulders, there is no telling what his legacy could have been or where he would be at.

Maybe. It's so hard to say. But Don King saw the potential to build a myth, so they protected Tyson and let him KO guys that weren't in his league again and again to pad his record and build up the hype. Whenever you saw him against a top-level fighter (Buster Douglas, Holyfield, Lennox Lewis), the legend was gone and you saw a one-trick pony with no game plan who couldn't take the pressure these guys would put on him.
I agree. Tyson with different coaches and management could have been one of the greats, but sadly, that's not how it worked out.
