Default Tattoos-- what's the deal??

Tattoos-- what's the deal??

Skin ink has really become popular the last decade. I wonder how long this craze will continue. We hardly see fighters anymore without skin art. Is this an American thing or is it international?

Tattoos have, in the past, been considered trashy by some. Over the past several years, with lots of sport figures and well known celebrities with tattoos, people have started to accept tattoos more and more in the mainstream. As far as it being an American or international thing...Id say its both. There are several cultures around the world that have tattooed themselves as both a right of passage and as part of their culture. I think that there will be more and more tattoos seen as more and more people compete in sports where they only wear shorts. The more skin shown the more tattoos shown...

I'm not inked myself but I dig good work; particularly the full sleaves.

I think it's interesting how fast it seemed to go from being such a bad ass thing to do to being such a common thing.

I personally have no ink myself, but think about it constantly.
I like that it is excepted a lot now, but I hate that everyone has them.

I do really enjoy looking at different artists work on the internet though.
This guy is one hell of an artist

Tattoos are pretty cool I think, I got a couple for myself yrs ago. Just make sure you ask yourself this question, about a good 20 yrs from now, from the time you first got tattooed, are you still going to be pleased, having the same tattoo(s) on yourself ?? if the answer is yes, then it's probably is the right thing to do. If not, do not get a tattoo, because later on in life, you might regret having on the same tattoo(s) on your body, and might have to find drastic ways just to get rid off them.

May have been Bonnar in RealFighter who said that not having tattoos makes you the rebel when the majority has them.

Yup. I think on some level its actually a tougher sign to NOT have tattoos also.

Where as some weak-minded guys less confident in themselves, will get the tattoos thinking it makes them look "Tougher" in the eyes of others, than they really are.

Mike nickles for example, aka "tatto boy" from TUF3 as i liked to call him. He looked kinda tough earlier in the show, but that all flew out the window when he had to prove his skills in a match against Matt(deaf fighter).

Dude had no stand-up game whatsoever, probabley the lousiest fighter on the show too dispite the tattooed visage. Matt had no problems smacking him around for 2 rounds straight.

I still wouldn't say the majority has them though. Certainly A LOT of people do, but I'd bet the farm that the number of non-tattoo'd people is still much greater than the number of tattoo'd people.

Are we talking UFC fighters? If so, I'll take that bet.

ps. how big is your farm?

I was talking just people in general not just UFC fighters.

i used to work with this guy who had the Tupac tattoo on his waist. "Thug Life" he claimed he used to be a real badass. the problem is that he is white and so drugged up on Paxil and Prozac that he did'nt even respond to his own name. i recall him saying once that he did'nt like his tattoo and was going to fix it. i assumed he was going to have it removed. Nope, he informed me that he did'nt like the bullet that dotted the " i " and was going to have it touched up. this is also a guy that used to flex his arms all the time. we told him to cut it out, that he looked stupid. he told us we were just jealous of his guns. i told him no, i have a set of BB guns at home as well. this guy definately made me not want to get tattoos.

tattoos are only a visual intimedator to the weak minded. i think a lot of tatooed fellas just do it as a symbol of some sort of pictorial to some of their accomplishments..

of course some just get it to be cool, it was and still is the "in" thing to do. who cares if someone has tatts. i have a couple, they don't mean anything, initially i just got one to see what if felt like. Then i got another relating to my career. tatts don't mean prison or your bad people or they don't necessarily mean you are trying to intimidate.

True.

When I was in my twenties I use to do a lot of street fighting, I never worried about fighting the guys who bragged about knowing martial art, the guy who brags about it is normally an easy fight; its the quiet martial arts guy you gotta worry about.
To some people tats are the same thing, make everyone think you are bad and you'll never have to prove it.

One of my mates got his daughter Hayley's name tattooed on his chest. Spelled it Haley. Needless to say he cops a bit of grief from his pals.
