Multivitamins and Whey Protein - which ones?
Hey all, it's me again. It's finally started and I'm doing MMA here in Newmarket, Canada (a big woot!), well, now I want to get some multivitamins and whey protein to help augment me getting in better shape, shedding pounds and giving me more energy for the workouts.
So... I'll be heading to my local GNC to pick up products, but I want to know what you guys out there recommend. I did visit the store briefly and talked to one of the associates and she was knowledgeable, but she was also pimping a lot of the GNC brand. So, help me out guys!
I'm looking for Multivitamins and Whey Protein. I'd prefer not to spend too much cash on them if I can avoid it. I'm also thinking about some green tea - and if the money holds out, I may look into Xyience
Thanks in advance guys!
BTW, if anyone is curious about the first class, it went well and I learned a lot - we basically learned a bunch of techniques for sweeping from the butterfly guard. Obviously I wasn't that great, but learning is a long process

I recommend staying out of gnc and just buying online.
(Unless you want to buy their mega men's multivitamin, that's not too bad of a deal)
As far as protein goes
In my opinion optimum nutritions gold standard whey is the best protein out there.
This would prolly cost you a hundo at gnc and it's half the price. (you obviously don't have to buy 10 lbs I'm just using this as an example of the savings)

I've ordered from advantagesupplements before and they are very good communication wise and very fast with the shipping (I am in the states though).
They have a great deal on nox cg3 in blueberry as well (if you're interested in creatine at all)

Thanks for the tip.
The Whey you showed me to is actually around the same price at the GNC (relative to currency exchange and S&H).
The Xyience though is half price for the 780g tub so I think I'll look into that and see what the S&H is like to Canada (how long it'll take, how much extra it'll cost)
More advice from you guys out there is great!

Be careful about ordering products like this online. Sometimes the reason they can get it so cheap is because it's EXPIRED, and they fail to mention that until you have it in your hands after a final sale.

Excellent. And I'll second the recommendations for GNC's mega multi and ON's gold standard whey protein.

Oh, in case you were wondering the S&H to Canada is 19.99 and the time is about 2-4 weeks - mainly due to customs and their increased security and searching of packages.

I'd avoid GNC multi's...they have like a laquer coating or something on them...lol...it decreases the absorbency. Nutrilite vitamins are the best multi's. They are all organic, loaded, and absorb super good. Their Double X brand is the best, as you get a combo of multi, mineral, and phytonutrient (Anti-Oxidants). They're a little more costly, but Nutrilite's got a great, plain jane multi...that's very affordable too. It's something like 40-41 bucks for 6 months worth. www.codell1.qhealthzone.com has a pretty good selection. As far as Whey goes, I'd try Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey. Most bang for the buck. Really good powder at an affordable price. Get it at some place like www.buildingbrawn.com their prices are really good too. Hope this helps.

awww... $18.95 per ITEM? That's balls
EDIT: false alarm - it's per order
i think i might use the buildingbrawn.com website to ship stuff to me. the ON whey protein powder is really cheap, and the Xyience isn't the cheapest I've seen around, but still cheap and geting it from the site will make it easier

My understanding regarding the glossy coating on GNC's multivitamins is that it allows the contents to release more slowly into your system over a longer period of time, unlike the kind with no coating, where you absorb more than you can process all at once and flush out the rest.

I'm just bustin your balls, but in my eyes, you could get the ON powder for 25 via the ebay seller I showed you vs. 25.99 at building brawn.
I don't see how one could be really cheap and one be the same as at gnc after currency conversion.

everything we eat breaks down or doesn't in your stomach then goes to your small intestine; where your body absorbs it...if it's not broken down all the way you lose it out the tail pipe.

thats true, but vitamins etc. can be designed to break down more slowly so that they spend more time in the stomach before moving on down the line. you don't want a supplement to break down so quickly that the majority of the product is flushed out of the system but at the same time you don't want a pill that comes out looking the same way it went in.

Right, what I was referring to was actually a vitamin test I read on Menshealth.com. or in one of their magazines...anyrate, something Menshealth. It's where you take your multivitamin and submerge it in a glass of vinegar. They recommend finding a new vitamin if it hasn't started to significantly breakdown in 20 mins. Things only hang around in your stomach for so long then they go on down the line to the small intestine and then the large and out the tail pipe. Your body absorbs stuff when it hits your small intestine, so if it's still covered in laquer, or hasn't begun to breakdown...it's pretty much useless. I'm not or was not trying to implicate that GNC's stuff wasn't anygood, but I have taken their multi before and I know it has that same kind of coating on it...though I did not test them with the vinegar...I also think GNC tries to rob you with some of their prices too. I did a test on the vitamins we'd been using, and they were only starting to get little pin holes in the laquer after 20 mins. We did some looking around and found the Nutrilite Vitamins; which is the company that introduced the multivitamin some 70 or so years ago. They break down and absorb really really well, and they're all organic. I have felt a very noticeable difference in how I feel taking them vs. my old vitamins...and my wife says the same thing. I'd highly recommend them to everyone. There is a good selection of Nutrilite products at www.codell1.qhealthzone.com. Their regular multivitamin is only 40 some bucks for six months worth; which is a great buy considering the label blows Centrum Silver (Menshealth's recommendation of a multi for all men) out of the water. Check 'em out.
