Thumbs up American Top Team

http://www.americantopteam.com/home.php

if you're looking for a top notch facility to train at you might want to consider working out with the guys at American Top Team. two of thier most notable fighters, Marcus Aurelio and Jeff Monson.

Have you trained with them, Crash? Not that I'm disputing your recommendation, because everyone knows ATT are a first-class crew, I'm just curious.

if i were to get really serious about my training i would move to Florida just to train at ATT. IntoCombat.com and the Institute of Human Performance are all down in that general area as well. i know Militech Fighting Systems in Iowa gets alot of attention but i think the combination of ATT and IHP would be an incredible combination.

Depends what you mean by a team. Are you looking to start fighting competitively? Because if you are, one of the only legitimate fight teams in Toronto is up at Shah Franco's school on Yonge near Eglinton (Professor Sylvio Berring is their mentor and head instructor).

If you're just looking to start taking lessons and you want to know about the rates for gyms that train guys who don't necessarily want to fight, I recommend:

Toronto Kickboxing & Muay Thai,

White Tiger BJJ,

or Salvosa BJJ.

I don't personally know anyone who trains at Toronto BJJ, but the site makes them sound pretty good.

Any place worth its salt will offer you some free trial time at their gym before you have to commit your money.

found them too.

but the question i was wondering about was the cost of a big team such as american top team. im sure it would be a lot more than what these little gyms charge, so i just wanted to compare.

You're still not being clear about your own intentions, which makes the difference. I could go to American Top Team in Florida and sign up for classes, and the price wouldn't be much different from what most gyms charge. The same could be said of Miletich, Team Quest, American Kickboxing Academy, etc.

The pricing is usually different if you're an actual professional fighter and member of their fight team (different from just being another guy who takes lessons at the gym). Here's ATT's fight team. At this point you get more of their attention because they're actually training you for a fight, and probably cornering you too. I know Marc Laimon at Cobra Kai gets a cut of your fight purse when he's training and cornering you.

And as for that gym in Scarborough, I don't know -- I'm skeptical. Their site talks like an infomercial, and when any credible MMA/BJJ gym in town charges around $100 a month, $19 sounds too good to be true (I say you get what you pay for, you know?). If you check them out, come back and let us know how they are.

American Top Team is a big gym but from what i hear from guys who train there, its still like a family, especially once you've been cleared to train with the other profighters. if you are serious about becoming a fighter there is no substitute for experience and a gym like ATT is bursting at the seams with it. knowledge costs money, you can't expect top trainers to sell you what they know for 3 easy payments of $19.99.
