For each weight division I'd go...

Arlovski verses Fedor

Liddell verses Silva

Franklin verses Chonan

Yves verses Gomi

I don't care what rules but I can see Fedor and Franklin winning their fights. Other than that I don't know who would win in the other two bouts.

I love Chuck but I don't think he can handle Silva. I think him and Rampage II would be a better and more entertaining fight.

Arlovski vs. Fedor
Franklin vs. Shogun (If Rich would fight as a Light Heavyweight)
Murilo Bustamante vs. Ivan Salaverry
Josh Thomson vs. Gomi

Note: Not saying these guys are the best but I believe they would make for very exciting fights. Also I know Josh has fought recently in Bushido yet he is still on the UFC fighters page. Is he UFC or Pride? Either way the fight would still be good.

Default Ufc Vs Pride

Would someone mind telling me the differences between the two? I see UFC televised much more.

Pride: One 10 minute round and then two 5 minute rounds. Pride allows kicks to a downed fighter and the four point striking (knees to the head etc.). Bouts are scored overall and not by rounds. Most MMA leauges do that. They have the yellow card which deducts points of a fighter if he's stalling and a red card if they get DQ'd. They don't allow full elbow strkies to the head, due to cuts, but allow forearm strikes. Just not the point of the elbow. They're in a ring instead of a cage like most Japanese fight clubs.

It's in Japan and is actually a lot bigger than UFC. Other than a few stand outs in the UFC, Pride fighters are usually ranked higher than UFC fighters. See www.mmaranks.com for that.

Thanks for the information. Are most Pride events on PPV only?

what drives me crazy about pride, is that american fighters go there... i know that sounds strange and i know its huge in japan, but if im a top MMA american star i want to be in the UFC, involved in the upcoming rise in popularity. Thats really true wtih all MMA stars, but as the ufc rises in the states id really like to see more of the stars from pride come on over. i cant stand the ring in pride, and i love the octagon. the rules in pride are better, but the bias decisions in scoring are ridiculous there. the better fighters are in pride OVERALL... its deeper, but i can make a good case towards chuck or randy or AA, matt hughes beating any of them.
overall my main point is why not try to lure some of them over to the US and see some more superfights

My biggest gripe about Pride is the ring, what cluster-f to restart a fight due to inadequate fighting space. It completely interrupts the flow of the fights. I am sure the fighters agree that the stoppages are counterproductive.

Pride PAYS to get the best fighters in the world. thats the main difference. i used to like the cage better but now i dont think it matters. it only changes the strategy. they keep the ring for the spectators.

i agree 100%... the restarts ruin everything... a full fight is an awesome thing to watch, and in the UFCs cage thats never an issue. its fine to stand them up if nothings going on forever to get action going, but what pride does is crazy...
i would like to see the strikes allowed in the UFC that are in pride, however thats not up to the UFC at all, thats the athletic commission

Man there hadn't been any talk like this for a while. I was hoping the whole Pride and UFC rivalry bs had calmed down.

Here are my thoughts. They are MMA. I like MMA therefore I watch both. I have done my share of Dana bashing but that is nothing against UFC. I still try to keep up with it as much as I can. That is the reason I started watching TUF, so I could try and get involved in the conversation more.

The whole bias judges and crap like that drives me crazy. Again if you think the judges are bias watch the Yoshida and Wanderlei II fight. You will be surprised at how supposedly bias these judges are made out to be by some people. Yoshida is a hero to all of Japan yet he has lost 3 times all by decision to fighters not of Japanese descent.

Pride pays more because they have more money. MMA is so much bigger over there than it is here. That is obvious. That doesn't mean that UFC won't be able to pay the big bucks some day.

The ring and the cage debate can go on forever. I don't go either way for them. I don't care about anything else except the fight going on. I will say that I do like the fact that the restarts can possibly prevent a fighter from getting out of a sticky situation that in the cage they would have been forced to just stand up. I'm not going to debate it though that is my personal feelings.

if you are going to say pride pays more, please site fighter payoffs in the UFC vs Pride for the major fighters.... from what ive seen pride pays more sometimes, not in all cases, so unless i see other citations here that isnt really a factor...

other then that i agree angryjohnny, i like watching both because both can be very exciting. Ufc's management bugs me at times, while prides ring and restarts and lack of coverage in the states drive me crazy

Watch the finals of the GP the amounts are clearly shown on the enormous checks they hold up, I can't remember the exact amounts. If someone doesn't know for sure I'll go back and watch them and post them. I think Fedor walked away with 250k. No one in the UFC makes that much even with a win bonus. No one in Pride is going to walk out like some of the fighters in UFC do. $2500 pay plus a chance of a bonus is chump change. UFC needs to pay more because their fighters are risking their lives and sometimes end up broke after a fight. Not that it matters on which is better. Just think about it though Pride fills their arena every time and UFC is still giving a lot of tickets away. Again I am not bashing anything. UFC is just still picking up speed here.

Eventually Pride will move to the states and give the fans more MMA to enjoy. I hope it happens soon. That way UFC would stop trying to "compete" with WWE.

do you think pride would move to the US?? that would be very interesting because i dont know how both can coexist in one market, and with the UFC so established already that would be interesting

Back in the day UFC paid very well. Tito was right about that in his interview. They used to be taken care of. That's not so true anymore unless Dana has a crush on you. Like I said if you want to know so badly you know where you can find them. Watch Final Conflict you will get to see the numbers with your own eyes. It's not like it's something I'm going from "well I heard this" or something like that. I just can't remember the exact numbers.

I don't know, I think Pride needs to stay in Japan as much as possible. I'm a big believer in two different companies staying two different companies. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing more of it on TV, but I would rather them stay in Japan.

I really feel I'm more of a UFC fan when it comes down to it, but I'm getting more and more used to watching Pride as well. I do prefer the octagon over the ring, but Pride does have the overall better fighters.

The stoppages in Pride fights does get annoying, especially when they stop the fight to wipe the blood off of a regular cut. That just completely stops the momentum of a fight and gets on my nerves. The only time a UFC fight stops is when the cut is severe and usually above the eye. They stop it for nosebleeds in Pride, and that gets on my nerves.

That being said, I enjoy both and I'm glad we get the chance to watch both. I would rather watch 2 MMA organizations than 1. But when it comes down to it, I am still a UFC guy.

I just wish the UFC would take care of their guys a little better and pay them a little better. It might cost more, but it would pay off in the end. The cards would get better and better.

Just by looking at the history of the UFC, it looks like the best cards were in the UFC30-UFC40 era. I might be mistaken, but those cards were sure packed with stars..
