Default is the IFL as success?

why will the IFL be successful? because it has the full support of many many many former fighters and also has incredible financial backing. the IFL has 10 teams confirmed and each one has a great fighter as the coach. the IFL has used an approach not taken by any other promotion and i think that they are doing an excellent job. however some people still see it as an accident waiting to happen.

I have no doubt it COULD be successful just with the fighters involved. But I mean it didnt get any PPV coverage, was difficult in some markets to get to see especially in NOrthern CA like where I live.

I think it's like with every organization. The fighters are only half the piece of the puzzle. You need good marketing. YOu need to get contracts with TV/Satellite, hell even radio broadcasts of the fight would help promote that organization.

There is enough interest out there and still a huge crop of fans on the fence still about MMA. We just need better run organizations with better marketing strategies.

I like the WEC model. I know not everyone has an HDTV, but the WEC has a huge contract with the Tachi Indian Gaming Palace and a contract with HDNET to televise FOR FREE their bouts. And they have had some outstanding bouts. For free and in HD???? Awesome stuff and what other organizations should try to do as well.

I think time will tell with the IFL, but they need better promotion and marketing to get more access to the fights.

alot of IFL stuff is going to be free on Fox Sports. that is what the IFL is doing, trying to lure in sponsors to get revenue as opposed to using PPV. check out the IFL website. looks like there will be alot of IFL on tv this fall. http://www.ifl.tv/News.aspx?t=&i=105

I think it has done very well so far and will be successful. The only reason it isn't huge is because of the close minded people who weren't even giving it a chance before it started. I can't even remember how many ridiculous posts I read of people dooming it to failure before it even held its first event. They have great sponsors and the guys who run it really are in it to make the sport better for the fans as well as the fighter, not just out to make as much many as possible. It still blows my mind how people will watch Real World Sausagefest but won't watch a show that only has fights without all the guys acting like teenage girls.

The only thing I worry about is oversaturation. Ruas and Frye were just both given teams, and Monte Cox has all but said that Jeremy Horn is taking time off from MMA because he is going to get a team soon. Now I know there is alot of good up and coming talent in the MMA world.. but there is a point. As some of you may know, the IFL pays salary as well as purse.. if the gate draws are less than expected for some time, expect 'downsizing'. Also, even though the teams are based in certian cities, it has yet to be decided if teams will have 'home games' so to speak, although the recent Portland and Quad Cities events have started to show this may be a possibility.

They just entered into a merger with Palladiant, whatever that is, with them emerging as the sole remaining entity.. meaning that the IFL will remain but get money from what I guess.. I leave the wall street bull to men in suits with no huevos

Wouldn't surprise me if Horn did coach a team. He corned the Siverbacks Saturday night, which surprised alot of us that attended since we thought he'd be out with Matt.

*Edit* to fix a quote link.

the IFL website tells about the two men behind the IFL, one of them is the founder of WIZARD magazine, which is really big with the comic book world. there is alot of money behind the IFL so i don't see it downsizing prior to the first "full" season that will consist of 12 teams.
