What side was his injury?
Because in round 3 around 2:20 left before hughes took side control he was really throwing at BJ's right mid section pretty well too. And BJ even seemed like he was in a lot of pain and thats when he gave it up for side control.
Could this have been what his rib seperation is from?

from his website
BJ:
I felt great going in, Matt started trying to take me down from my right leg, it's something I expected he might do. He got me down against the fence, but I was thinking about this position alot and I was ready. When he went for a big elbow, he missed and I capitalized and started going for his back. At this moment, when I was making the turn towards his back, I felt my ribs seperate on my right side. Although I didn't know the severity of the situation. I was thinking I have to finish him now because I knew something was wrong. Matt defended himself well and got through the round. When I got up to walk to my corner, I knew something was wrong, but I didn't want to talk about it with my corner. I wanted to be the champ. I wanted to keep fighting.
Interviewer:
What about round 3?
BJ:
I remember standing up out of the corner in pain. But I was thinking, "Earn your title this is what you have to do to get your belt back, fight through the pain". I knew the oppurtunity I had with getting this fight, especially after losing my last fight. I wasn't going to quit on the corner. I kept going because I honestly believed it was destiny. When me and Matt were boxing I felt like I couldn't breathe and had no mobility in my core. But I kept thinking something good is going to happen. When Matt started dominating the stand up I tried for a takedown. I had nothing and pulled to guard. I felt like I couldn't do anything on the ground. But I was still positive. Matt hit me in the ribs from half guard. The pain was so excruciating I had to use my far hand to block it. I would rather Matt pass my guard and punch my face the hit my ribs. When Matt was in his favorite position that he likes. I was still thinking I was going to win somehow. Big John gave me plenty of time. I practiced defending against that position with flexibility, but I had none with my core. Even when Big John stopped the fight, I was still so positive I thought I escaped. Congratulations to Matt, he is a great fighter. It's not his fault that that happened, he fought like the champion he is. He deserved the victory.

Ric Flair had a saying, "You gotta walk that aisle..." And he also talked a lot about how his opponents had to deal with the butterflies in their stomach. Now, I know that pro-wrestling is not real and not MMA. But, that is the point. MMA is real and you will get really hurt. I think that it takes huge brass ones to even walk down that aisle. As much as I rag on Penn not being up to his old self, he would knock me out in like 10 or 20 seconds if I was lucky. It would hurt -- a lot.

Naw Sub, like you said, he is no longer a KO artist. He would beat on you for a couple minutes than twist you around like a pretzel and make you smell your own butt. THAT would hurt alot.LOL

Good luck paying for a hospital visit with $300. Hopefully you don't get concussed, broken bones, etc. Good luck stretchin 3 bills for American healthcare.

I think BJ would pwn both of them with relative ease, but it would make for a really exciting fight to fill up a card, and it would give Penn a credible victory before the inevitable trilogy with Hughes.Diaz and Penn would probably just scrap and the fight would no doubt end in an exciting fashion.

Ah man, it would make me so happy to see Nick Diaz pull off a sweet KO on BJ Penn. I also think that Karo Parisyan needs a come back win after Diego Sánchez defeated him. I would like to see Karo beat Penn. And, for the finale of my wish list, I would love to see Diego Sánchez defeat Penn. LOL

I'm pretty sure UFC covers SOME hospitalization. They take good care of their fighters...they just don't give them as much money as we think they should. A lot of smaller shows don't cover all the medical bills, but they at least have a doctor sew up your cuts and check for concussions/broken bones.

I'm not sure about Diaz, i think Penn would take him. But i think Karo would be too much for BJ. BJ would have a tough time utilizing takedown defense with karo's Judo. I think he would be stuck on his back for most of the fight. Karo by unanimous decision.

Screw it, I'm a BJ Penn fan now! I don't care that he lost to Hughes, he still impressed me. Matter of fact, he's going on my top 5 list.
I like everything from his mindset when he enters the ring, and assumes battle-stance immediately, to the insane flexibility that he has. Watching him on the ground is like watching an artist. I just watched the fight for the 3rd time now, and I love how he went from his back, to Hughes' back so quickly, and with such ease. I am also amazed how Matt Hughes of all people had his leg, and still struggled to take him down. An artist I tell you!
Bring on Sanchez, Karo, whoever. BJ will roll through them, and will get his rubber match against Hughes. Randy got his vs Chuck. Andre got his vs Tim. Why shouldn't BJ get his?

Imo Diego has to fight one of BJ/Hughes/GSP next, since he already beat Diaz and Karo.
And since Hughes-GSP will have the title-fight, BJ is the ovious choice.
Diego is ****ing undefeated, and he's ranked 4th, please do not give him an easier fighter than Karo! I'll be seriously pissed if they still decide to "build him up"/protect him.

The only MMA organization that provides any health coverage is the IFL. For the others, the fighter is on his own. The IFL also pays their contracted fighters a salary whether they're fighting that month or not.

The only fight that would make sense at this time is BJ vs. Diego. Diaz is not even in the same light as any of these fighters. He's explosive and entertaining, but he lets his mouth get in the way. I had a lot of respect for him until I saw heard his comments after being embarrased by Diego. He still couldn't give it up to Diego. How can you say that someone doesn't deserve to be in the UFC after they just kicked your ass???
Karo is also out of the running. Albeit that he's a great Judo technician. He still has a lot of work to do on his ground and pound and stand up game. I think BJ would take him apart. We've seen Karo's fights and there are a lot of holes.
Putting Karo and Diaz into the mix will also kill the momentum for the UFC. I don't see Dana White doing it from a business point of view either.

What? Diaz never said Diego doesn't deserve to be in the UFC. And he did give Diego his props after that fight. He was simply saying Diego was getting special treatment, and that's true.
I also thought Rogan asking that "well, do you think Diego is tough now"-question was really immature and disrespectful thing to ask after a (somewhat close decision-) loss.
Did he ask Matt Hughes "well, do you think BJ thinks he made a terrible mistake now?" after BJ beat him? No.

LOL @ Joe Rogan
That's why I love Joe Rogan. Only he would say something like that.
I thought the same thing when he said that, but forgot to bring it up. It sounds like something some elementary school kid would say, not a commentator who's supposed to be a professional. That was disrespectful for Rogan to say. If I were Diaz I would've let Rogan have a piece of my mind, and my fist :sport-smi

I'm not sure that was exactly what Rogan said. I remember more like "do you think Diego deserves to be here now?" Whatever the question was, it was well-founded. Diego talked more trash about Diego than anyone I've ever seen, and still talked him down and disrespected him after he lost a close decision. (Which I still think should have been gone his way but, oh well).
What a great, great fight though. I'd love to see them rematch once Diaz builds up a couple more wins.

The bottom line is that Nick Diaz wasn't a good sportsman once he lost the fight. He lost and still couldn't acknowledge that Diego deserved to be there. As far I can see, Diego is in a better standing than Diaz is right now.
