why aren't there more big names in ufc today
i like seeing the new fighters of the ufc, but i was wondering why the ufc dosen't sign big names for ppv fights like Renzo Gracie and Pat Militech. Is there some kind of political thing against the powers that be in the ufc or what. some other guys that i'd call big names and would like to see are maybe, Bas Rutten, Frank Shamrock, Jason Miller and there are others, why dosen't the ufc sign these guys.

several reasons, some of the guys mentioned are old and rarely compete. the UFc have severed ties with lots of fighters over pay etc.. such as lindland, and shamrock old ones brought back ortiz and pulver also left over pay disputes. we could have guys like tank abbott and kimo in there to as they are big names, but these guys are (as you americans say) "cans". In a way the new TUF series can be looked at like that, although matt serra is one of my alltime fave fighters.
look what happened when they brought back royce, he crumbled. i think the ufc's policy of 3 defeats in a row and your out idea doesnt work, i personally would want to see several fighters based upon workrate.
other fighters such as horn and lawler moved on due to no movement in their divisons, i.e horn not wanting 2 fight franklin and lawler not fighting hughes.
the ufc tends to look more at new talent and doesnt really payout as much as pride for example, personally speaking i reckon bringin back belfort, lawler and guys like carlos newton for example would make me more eager to watch the events (not that i dont anyway.)

what exactly makes a fighter a BIG NAME? Pat Militech and Renzo Gracie are both great fighters but i think Pat is less known as a great fighter and better known as an incredible trainer. Renzo is a Gracie and that alone can make him a big name. look at what just happened to Jens Pulver, a big name that just got KO'd. the truth is that big names don't always deliver the goods. Kimo was an example of a big name that has'nt done much of anything. Ken Shamrock is another example. look at GSP, he was basically unknown and now he is a Big Name. we can't live in the past, young fighters are needed to keep the sport fresh.

Ok...so what do you call guys like Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddel, and Rich Franklin? A couple of Nobodys, eh?
*sigh* If you called Matt Hughes a nobody to his face, he'd get you in the cruceafix and force you to eat a Country Breakfest that Tim Sylvia cooked.
And just so you know, Tim Sylvia's cooking SUCKS. You'd be in for some torture(especially those grits,Blehh!).

I gotta say it annoys the hell out of me that Machida and Jackson weren't picked up when they were available.

Chuck Liddell is one of the, if not THE most popular fighters in the country. People know who Tito Ortiz is. Matt Hughes, and Rich Franklin as well.
What do you expect? Hulk Hogan?
UFC isn't gonna go after "names" like Miletech, Gracie bros, ect. if they can't compete. Machida and Jackson I have no excuse for though. They should be in the UFC.

Chuck liddel is definitly more well-known and a BIGGER name right now than rampage. Only pride geeks honestly think rampage is a bigger icon.

Dana didn't sign Rampage to protect his beloved Chuck. Just like we won't see Chuck fight Wandy.

Good point, but remember that back in the Day, Pat was what a 5 time defending champ which is rare in the UFC. Shamrock, Tito, and Hughes I think were the only other 5 time champs. Wth Hughes now at what 7 time defending?
BUt youre right, and I dont think the UFC is against Pat, otherwise, half the UFC fighters wouldnt be there. Almost all of them come from MIletich Fighting Systems.
What I WOULD like to see (just because around where I live he keeps making noise about his system and a comeback) Is Frank Shamrock come back.
I know he hates the UFC, but that's jealousy more than anything. He doesent like that the UFC has owners with the casino ties that have all the $$$ in the world, but pay very little of those profits to the fighters. Fair enough. But the best way to combat that in my opinion is to make a comeback to the UFC and put up or shut up. I love Frank Shamrock, but to me, he's the one fighter in the world that could be so much more than he is now, if he'd just stop talking and fight! I love his style. His confidence in himself. The way he rips down his opponents. But as Goldy once said (about Tito not Frank)....
SOmetimes Ego becomes your enemy. Unfortunately, I think that may be the case with Frank.

I don't recall anyone saying that Rampage was a bigger name than Liddell. In fact I'd be surprised if anyone here thinks that.
