Default Diego Sanchez Vs. Joe Riggs on Dec 13th at an UFN show.

I was a bit surprised when I read this. I would think that Riggs would stay at 185 lbs but I also thought that Diego would most likely face Penn next. I think it all depends on which Riggs shows up to fight wheather or not Riggs or Diego wins this. I do think that it will be a pretty good fight to watch. Riggs arguably has the most punching power of anyone Diego has faced in the UFC so far. Riggs is taller and has a longer reach than Diego and is naturally bigger / heavier than Diego. If Riggs finds himself on the bottom with Diego able to impliment his game plan, it might be a long 3 rounds for Mr. Riggs.

Riggs did pretty good against Diaz, who barely lost to Diego. I think this might be another pretty close fight. At least a lot closer than some are going to give credit for anyway.

I like Riggs alot but i really cant see him beating Diego. They better give Diego a shot at Hughes or GSP after he wins this.

I agree, but one thing about Riggs, he does always come to fight. But....

When's the last time we saw a really good upset??????

No the lauzon fight doesent count although I loved it but Lil Evil hadnt fought in the Octagon in over 5 years!

I think Riggs might be so overlooked for this fight that. Who knows?

I still think Diego wins, but wouldnt be surprised if Riggs puts on a good show and surprises everyone!

Id really like the UFC to put Diaz in there vs. Diego.

I agree with Ninjabot, if Diego wins he should be the next in line for the UFC WW championship.

I dont think Diaz can finish Diego. He doesnt have the punching power and Diego is too strong on the ground. The best he could really hope for would be a decision. Riggs is strong enough (when he brings his "A" game) too finish Diego, but it seems like whenever Diesel gets a win in the octagon he cant follow it up. Im going too say he continues this trend and gets submitted by Diego.

That is a Step-BACK for Diego. I'd think after Karo he'd be facing someone more worthy(Keyword=Worthy.)

Yeah joe riggs is a tough guy with potential, but Diego Sanchez is just on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL.

Almost a waste of Diego's time....Pffft.

You'd honestly bet all your points on diesel?

Wow, going out on a limb here, i'm guessing you've had a past history with failed bets up to now.

(Betting Tip: Only bet on who you THINK will win, NOT who *YOU WANT* to see win)

Replace "Joe Riggs" with someone like "BJ Penn", and i'd agree. However, Joe Riggs is nowhere near the calibur of BJ Penn or other top WWs.

He's also by no means the "Gatekeeper" guy, that one would have to beat in order to prove himself worthy of a possible title shot.

Like i've said this is a Step-BACK for diego, he has little to gain by schooling Riggs. Looks like this will be an EASY pay-day for diego.

how come so much praise for Riggs? The guy is a mediocre fighter to say the least. I'm not a Diego fan but this is a step down for him when he is on the rise. I can't see Sanchez losing this one to a guy that never shows his "supposedly great" fighting skills and can easily submitted. I don't think beating a guy like von flue proves just yet that's he's back in the game.

So who should Diaz fight now? The top three aren't available and he's already beaten Karo and Diaz. Riggs makes sense as a meantime fight.

I guess so. Riggs is a mediocre fighter, so he'll make an 'ok' placeholder.

Sure he's big, tough, and has potential sure, but riggs is still mediocre when it comes to proving it all in the ring. Still young and has ALOT to learn.

I think you meant Diego not Diaz but, Penn should be ready for another fight by Dec. He would have been a better choice. Frank Trigg vs Diego would be another better fight then Riggs.

They should make it Diego vs. BJ Penn instead. After defeating Karo, Riggs is a step down for Diego. But whatever, this fight against Riggs should be a fairly easy win for Sanchez. 18-0 anyone?

I think that Diego is taking this fight for the same reason Tito is taking his 3rd fight with Shamrock: to stay busy while waiting for the next serious fight.

For Diego, he cant fight Penn before he's healthy and that might be a while. With Penn hurt and the champ and #1 contender already slated to fight, Diego can do one of two things:
1) wait untill Penn is healthy or for the Hughes / GSP fight to conclude (whichever happens first) OR
2) he can take a fight with someone who will test him and keep him active. I believe he is doing the second one.

I think that Riggs will do better than a lot of people are giving him credit for. The guy can throw some serious leather and is pretty talented. True, he's not always performed up to what people say he is capable of doing. I think that Diego will probably come away with the win but I dont think it will be the steamroll / destruction that some are saying it will be.

I think it will probably go to a decision.

Not if he's injured. The time to heal then to train afterwards would not be enough to fight by Dec. BJ Penn should be his next big fight, but you can't keep him out of the ring because Penn isn't ready. Maybe January or February.

this is definitely a step backwards, i'm surprised he took this fight, its not against a top 3 opponent or on ppv.
