The Official Tito Thread: Can He Come Back?
I have watched the UFC and of course what later became MMA since this started as many of you have.
What got me MORE interested in the UFC was what I call the evolution of MMA after Tito/Frank Shamrock 1998.
Before that fight, the UFC was a freak show entertainment gig that really didnt care who fought who as long as it made dough. Then pretty much got into trouble, then of course the fans brought it back with the 1st MMA Superstar (at least in the United States) Tito Ortiz
Prior to a new, tough, cardio freak Ortiz, the UFC was showcased in High School Gyms and Trailer Parks all over the grand Mid-West! (Who Could ever forget the "Battle in the Bayou" nonsense!?!?!?!)
But now the UFC has newer more dominant faces. And that's fine. The LIddells, the Coutures, the TUF people etc......But.......
Tito is still around and I still respect that he's a man who although isnt champ anymore, still trains his ass off, is an example to younger fighters in staying in shape, and I think could somehow surprise people and retain his belt.
So the question to all of you is this. Can Tito regain his title? I for one, loook at the fight with Liddell and see, TITO GOT POKED, then to Chuck's credit he KTFO of Tito! But Tito stood and had the guts to stand with Chuck.
That to me says volumes. I don't think Tito is a scared person. I think he knows as every good fighter knows, his weaknesses. But Can Tito overcome those, push Chuck's weakness which everyone knows is cardio, and get his LHW title back????
To me? It's 50/50. Sure he could, but sure he couldnt as well. All it takes for Chuck is one. With Tito? He's kinda like Evander Holyfield in the sense he has to loosen you up first before he can capitalize in for the kill!
All I know, is I hope Tito stays in the game for years to come whether as a fighter or a coach because I am still a Tito fan and appreciate how he helped bring out the mainstream celebrities (and non mainstream like Jenna), in to the MMA mix. I think in America at least, Tito has a lot to do with putting MMA on the map in regular house holds!
