The Official Tito Thread: Can He Come Back?
I have watched the UFC and of course what later became MMA since this started as many of you have.
What got me MORE interested in the UFC was what I call the evolution of MMA after Tito/Frank Shamrock 1998.
Before that fight, the UFC was a freak show entertainment gig that really didnt care who fought who as long as it made dough. Then pretty much got into trouble, then of course the fans brought it back with the 1st MMA Superstar (at least in the United States) Tito Ortiz
Prior to a new, tough, cardio freak Ortiz, the UFC was showcased in High School Gyms and Trailer Parks all over the grand Mid-West! (Who Could ever forget the "Battle in the Bayou" nonsense!?!?!?!)
But now the UFC has newer more dominant faces. And that's fine. The LIddells, the Coutures, the TUF people etc......But.......
Tito is still around and I still respect that he's a man who although isnt champ anymore, still trains his ass off, is an example to younger fighters in staying in shape, and I think could somehow surprise people and retain his belt.
So the question to all of you is this. Can Tito regain his title? I for one, loook at the fight with Liddell and see, TITO GOT POKED, then to Chuck's credit he KTFO of Tito! But Tito stood and had the guts to stand with Chuck.
That to me says volumes. I don't think Tito is a scared person. I think he knows as every good fighter knows, his weaknesses. But Can Tito overcome those, push Chuck's weakness which everyone knows is cardio, and get his LHW title back????
To me? It's 50/50. Sure he could, but sure he couldnt as well. All it takes for Chuck is one. With Tito? He's kinda like Evander Holyfield in the sense he has to loosen you up first before he can capitalize in for the kill!
All I know, is I hope Tito stays in the game for years to come whether as a fighter or a coach because I am still a Tito fan and appreciate how he helped bring out the mainstream celebrities (and non mainstream like Jenna), in to the MMA mix. I think in America at least, Tito has a lot to do with putting MMA on the map in regular house holds!

Tito hasn't finished anyone besides Shammy since 2001.
He barely beat Forrest and IMO lost to Vitor. He couldn't finish Cote who took the fight on 4 days notice.
Tito is extremely overrated and he will never hold the title unless Chuck dies of alcohol poisoning or retires, and even then I doubt he would hold it.

ummm no. i think Wandy vs Tito is a better match then Tito vs Chuck however i see both of the fights with Tito waking up looking at Big Jon. he's in over his head when it comes to those types of strikers.

I think Tito has a real shot at beating Chuck..I think Chuck is so sure he can beat Tito that he might make a mistake...I know I know Chuck will most likly knock Tito out again but I think Tito has a real shot if he can get to the 3rd round..I think the reason Tito hasnt finished any fighters since Shammy has a lot to do with how infrequent he has been fighting. Now that he has his contract settled I think he will stay busy. He will challenge Chuck..Get a convincing win over Forrest, beat Babalu, and eventually get destroyed by Evans....But Im pulling for him against Chuck. I am a MMA fn because of Tito. I loved Royce and Dan Severn but it was and is Tito that makes me want to watch MMA every chance I get....Well Tito and hoping someone will beat up the country boy

I don't see that Tito has any chance at all of beating Liddell.

It's conventional wisdom why nobody sees Tito beating Chuck...
Chuck is unstoppable.
But since Chuck/Couture I????
Who has pushed the action???
Let me give you ONE guess as to the last fighter that's actually pushed the action vs. Chuck who wasnt afraid!!!
TITO!!
And he lost! But at least he pushed!
White, Horn, Couture (twice) and Sobral....All Jokesters (No offense) who bought in to the SLOPPY CHUCK belief.......And ALL GOT KO'D!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tito always got rode hard that he never beat anybody! Well, Ok, fair enough, let the games begin... Who exactly has Chuck beaten?
A washed up Vitor (who Tito EASILY Gnp'd - sorry Vitor fans, Vitor wasnt even close against Tito's GNP on that fight)
then Chuck Fought TWO OVERCONFIDENT
Randy Couture's (sorry again, but the truth hurts the most) which actually forced Randy's retirement
Tiger White? (Good Fight, but TUNE UP)
Sobral??? (Again another grappler that wonders why they can't take Chuck down and its cause YOU GOT TAGGED!!!!)
And Jeremy Horn? (OUt of Order of course)
That fight only happened for name recognition alone. Everyone in the REAL MMA world knew Horn had no chance....Up to the point where Chuck hit him so hard he still Cant see a year and a half later!!!
(Anyone heard from Horn lately???) No offense!
Chuck - "Where's that Big Headed Fool..........This man, This man keeps me motivated to train!" (Chuck commenting on Tito after disposing a 10-0 in his last fights Sobral)
Tito has a chance....A BIG CHANCE!!!!!!!

If he couldn't take Forrest down there's no way he'll take Chuck down, let alone keep him there.
However,I hate Chuck about a billion times more than Tito so for once in my life I hope Tito wins.Wow that's wierd for me to say that.

Yeah, but Tito boxed Forrest for a round and a half toe to toe, and FOrrest lost.
So if Tito can take that (not that Forrest is Chuck by any stretch)....
It's not like Tito has no Stand Up..
Hell, he's got ALOT more stand up than Horn, Sobral, even COUTURE!!!!!!!!!!
I know that might sound harsh. But the truth usually is.
Tito got thumbed in the eye in their first fight. Did Tito look in trouble in that fight at all prior to being thumbed?
Ask yourself that!!!! That fight wasn't as a big dominance as most MMA fans like to convince themself of!!!
Tito will be back!

Tito did stand up with Forrest. But he didn't win the stand up. Tito won because he won the first round with the GnP. In the second round, Forrest completely stuffed his takedowns and peppered him from start to finish. In the third round, he was finally able to take him down, but the GnP was not done in a convincing fashion. He's not going to be as successful against Liddell.

Can Tito win? Yes. Is it likely? No. Tito is my favorite fighter and I hate Chuck more than anything on this planet, but all my hopes and dreams won't win it for Tito. He needs to find a way to push the action against Liddell without opening himself up to a clean shot. I don't think he can do that and manage to keep Chuck in the center of the octagon and away from the fence, where Chuck is better at keepin it standing. Tito has definately got his work cut out for him.

Damn that Yankee loss really messed with your head.
#1 Silva would KO Tito these days. Ryduce, you are correct sir... Tito lost to Vitor. That was robbery at its' worst ever. and he barely beat forrest but yes he did beat him.
BUt --- #2 Tito didnt push anything vs Chuck.... he stood there bouncing and hoping the flames would jump off his shorts and light Chuck on fire. Then pressed the action at the bell by pushing BIG JOHN ~ then being promptly KO-ed at the start of round 2.
TITO, TITO, TITO

If that's true, you need to stop watching MMA for a while and go for a walk to regain a little perspective.

come on, he did take forrest down all the time in that fight... when he couldnt it was because he was lacking a ton of spring in his shoot from his knee.... a healthy tito which i believe he is now can take down chuck

Even dumb ass Joe Rogan commented on how Tito looked hurt in the fight with Forrest..His knee was wrapped for goodness sakes..I mean if you watched the fight you could tell he was gassed...When does Tito ever gass since losing to Frank Shamrock. Then it comes out later that he was hurt training with Matt Hamil...And I ever hear is how Tito couldnt take down Forrest. I just rewatched the fight and I think he out boxed Forrest in the second. Forrest out boxed him in the 3rd for sure. To say Tito has no chance is just dumb. Plain and simple. Do I think he will win?? No, I think he'll get poked in the eye and knocked out like most of Chucks opponents. I do think if he is able to get to the 3rd round his cardio and athleticsism will give him an avantage..
