He did already have a ground fighting skill system. He also was already well proven as a martial artist. He did beat a guy in Hong Kong to earn the right to train Americans. Here in the USA, he had to find new sparring partners all the time because nobody could take his full-contact sparring sessions. As far as mental aspect goes, he had a huge philosophy about fighting. It is still used by fighters today. "Be like water..." Bruce Lee said that. And, just tonight, Ken-Flo said the same thing.
