As the champ Rich would've only made $42K to win which is still $8K less than Silva got to win. Thats pretty sad. BJ made $8K more to lose than Rich would've made to defend against a stud like Silva. Oh well, this is my last rant about Rich's salary

Its contract jobs. I'll pay you 12K each job you complete, and guarantee you three jobs. Contractor #2 Comes in a year later, I offer him $30K per job. The two years overlap so contractor #1 is making less for the same thing, but he's under contract. In my job, I've been there 11 years and am a 1st level supervisor. A person just starting out makes almost as much as I do, and anyone the same rank as me makes about the same, whether they have 1 year or 12 years.

After taxes, expenses, training costs, etc???
Like I said the fighters are getting JACKED!!!!!
At least a lot of sponsors are out there with real $$$$ though taking care of the fighters.
Chuck has that 2.5 million dollar contract with Xyience and $500,000 dollar contract with Cobb 28, plus is guaranteed at least 100 gs per fight with the UFC
Same with Tito with his Punishment clothing line that the UFC partially sponsors and now his partnership with Jenna's company Dominatrix.. Tito also gets guaranteed 6 figures a fight
Ken and Randy the same deal.
But those are the exceptions to the rule.
The rest of the fighters get jacked.
I spoke to Nick Diaz once and he said the most he ever cleard with the UFC after a fight after taxes, expenses etc was 2500 bucks. That was for a 10 g fight.
On the flip side he fought once in pride and after all was said and done cleared 15 g's which was his biggest payday to date.
For a good respected fighter like Diaz to make that crap? Sad. For what these men put their bodies through it isn't worth it which to me is why I'm more impressed with UFC fighters. They don't do it for the money.

By not going for the first lowball deal you get offered. Could also easily be described as being smart.

All of the fighters are very very underpaid considering the millions and millions of dollars the UFC makes on each of these PPV's.

UFC were harsh at Rich definitely. They made the deal (I think it's 9 fights) after he lost to Ryoto, so they were at a good position. If Rich would have been undefeated still, it would have been a different story.
So a long contract and crap payments for fights, and he also had to drop down to MW, but a few advantages as well.
They decided to build him up. First the "slaying of the legend" , then the title-shot, and if he were to beat Tanner, he'd get on TUF2. And as we all know, he's been the face of UFC for a while now. That surely has brought in some money (most of his salary for sure) from sponsors.

And he says it still beats teaching for a living! I could see quitting my job to teach at a MMA school full time, fight a few times a year for bonus money, and hope to be good enough to land a lucrative endorsement or two!

The right thing for the UFC to do would be to renegotiate with Rich Franklin. Luckily, they put him in Xyience commercials and stuff too, so that is another $100,000+ I would imagine.
It also looks like Swick and Loiseau are vastly underpaid, and Kongo is vastly overpaid.

You also have to look at the devision they are in. Kongo's devision, HW, needs more talent and Im sure Dana was willing to pay a bit more to get a promising talent into that devision. The MW devision, however, has quite a few names in it that are good and that gives Dana more leverage to offer those fighters a lower salary. Its not right but its business after all and supply and demand play a part in prices.

I think I qualify as a "cry baby" since I've chimed in about this ongoing discussion. But seriously...do you have to be an agent to know that agents are hired to make you the most money possible in the shortest period of time? Any moron could have signed Rich's crap deal without the use of an agent. You think Reggie Bush would have signed for the amount that a 7th round pick was making if he was guranteed first round pick money in like 4 years? No freakin way. That's why he held out. He (probably with persuasion from his agent) wanted to make as much as Mario Williams is making.

Now my question for you is why arn't you an agent? Plenty of people here think they could of made better decisions for Rich. But I just see it as mondy morning quarter backing.

Because I have no interest in being a sports agent. The sports world is so corrupt and I will stick to my monday morning qb position. You can have a general idea of something and not have to do it. I have never spent $1000 on lottery tickets does that mean I can't call a person that does that a complete freakin moron because I have never done it myself?

calm down angryjonny
What options was he given?
My point basically is, if people dont know the other options given to Rich at the time (which was probably back when he defeated ken and UFC wasn't as big), then how could you say he is a idiot for most likely taking the best deal available at the time.
I just don't like to see the fans whining about the fighters pay, when the fighters themselves arn't complaining.

No you calm DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No I actually like discussing this without the usual person who starts accusing me of being a UFC hater and whatnot. It is a subject I am a little interested in yet hardly anyone can discuss without being on the just wanting to say how horrible it is or the blind defense that everything the UFC does should be written into the bible. The point I make is that there are plenty of fighters who are making way more than him who have started before and after he did in the UFC and did not hold a title.

I agree that Rich should make more money, all the way. But I believe that he isn't because of the contract he signed. I am sure next contract he re-news he will be making more money, of course now he isn't the champ though
