I want Mir to come in and erase our images of him from his last fight permanently, it would be great to see and really help the heavyweight division, so here's hoping.

Simply put, Fabiano Scherner is nowhere near the talent Frank Mir is, even with a spare tire. It says a lot about Mir that he pulled out a win 30 pounds overweight. Then again, it also says something about him coming into a fight 30 pounds overweight.
I've seen two uninspired Frank Mir performances in a row, but I'm giving him one more chance. I sure hope the third time is the charm. When at his best, Mir is my favorite HW in the UFC, so I really hope he comes in prepared. I'd love to see him teach Vera a lesson.
All that being said, Brandon Vera is on his way to a title shot right now, and there really isn't anyone that's going to stop him from getting there. He is on a roll, and I think he will pull out the victory over Mir. I'll certainly be cheering for Mir though. I'd desperately love to see Mir and Arlovski go at it, albeit a year or so too late.
Brandon Vera by unanimous decision.

If Mir makes it to a decision with his cardio (yes, it'll be poor again) against a guy like Vera, I will be amazed.
Vera will hurt him with kicks and punches like he's never been hurt before.

Plenty lined up. And I'd deserve one too, cos rarely have I been this sure of a fight's outcome.

You are VASTLY underestimating Frank Mir's ability in the octagon. Do you honestly think he will let himself come to fight against one of the UFC's top HWs 20 or 30 pounds overweight and out of shape? No way.
It's awfully hard to strike someone with leg kicks and body kicks when your back is on the ground. Frank Mir isn't an idiot.

Hey now, thats not necessary
However IMO, if you're going to bet on Mir. I'd recommend NOT betting the farm on him. Just put a few thousand points.
As for me? I'm staying the hell away from this bet. As a betting man, my lack of knowledge about these 2 fighters, makes it too risky for me to pick a winner.

No one's turning their back on Mir. He came into his last two fights completely out of shape. A femur fracture takes 6 months to heal and the rehab will go into at least another year. I would agree that he would have been severely out of shape for his first two fights back. So his spare tire and lack of cardio is understandable.
But the problem I see is that Mir never did have the cardio to go the distance in the first place. He's a great submission specialist. We saw what he did against Sylvia. But is Vera really going to get caught like that? I doubt it.
Against Sims in his rematch, both of them looked sloppy. Right before his KO, it looked like they were smashing grapes in the wine country rather than teeing off in the ring. It looked like it should have been a third round performance. But it was the second round.
The truth is that Mir's only fight that went the distance was against Christison, where he won by decision.
I think there's a different opponent in Vera. He's excellent on the ground. His striking is amazing. I doubt Mir can handle him for all three rounds. His best bet is to get it to the ground and get a submission. It's doubtful that will happen since Vera's no slouch on his back.
I predict that Vera will give him some solid kicks to his thighs that will crumble him. Mir will try to take him down and Vera will stuff them. If it goes to the ground, Mir will tire himself.
Vera by vicious KO in any scenario.

High ambitions for UFC 65
The first three fights are announced and all of them are killer matches. I anticipate this being a card to remember. Two title matches and another to pick the next contender for the HW title. I wonder who else they can put on this card to make it better.
You've got the #1 and #2 WW in the world battling for supremacy. Then the HW cards to see who's style will prevail. And then the so called return of Mir, or the emergence of the "Truth".
This has the potential to rival UFC 63.

I'm sure 65 will be your favorite as well if Hughes defeats GSP.
God knows we'll never hear the end of it.

Yeah it'll be fun rubbing it into the faces of all the rabid GSP&BJ Penn fans, who are so quick to hate on Hughes for any little thing.
Lately the matt hughes whining by that group has gotten a tad excessive too.

This is the worst PPV ever and Dana should be ashamed of himself.
Just prepping ppl for the eventual 800 threads after this PPV. This card looks good. I think everyone will start to get spoiled with 2 championship matches per card now. I say this for every PPV, but I wish it were tomorrow.

i really enjoy vera, and have little doubt that he may well be the future of te HW division. i also really kike mir, i just hope he shows up in shape. his reputation has been geting a whoopin as of late. altjough he brought i on himself, it is still tough considering what he has done in this sport nad what he is obviuoius capable of.
who matches up better? vera/silvia or vera/monson OR mir/silvia or mir/monson??

given the hype around 65, as well deserved as it may be, i will be tough to follow up with future ufcs, except with maybe ortiz/liddel @sswhooping...the sequel.
i fear this is where the fabricated fueds and te gimmicks may come into play, much like "professional wrestling." i know that what i expect from a ufc, likley because of the price, increases after every event. moreover, if a card sucks, i know i will pout and abstain from the ufc for months, i did after ortiz shamrock 2. i dont know exactly what i'm saying, i just hope that a) 65 wont suck, and b) it will be followed by another great card (and NOT the tuf winner getting beat down by a champ at 40$ to view)
