A True Disgrace To MMA
I know a lot of people who are fighters already knew tonight what happened about 2 months ago between Shonie and Matt.
But watching it on replay on TUF....Shonie dominated Matt Serra in this fight and as much as I hate Marc Laimon, he has a point.
Why should the Gracie's get this automatic respect? I mean, obviously Shonie was doomed to failure even though he JACKED UP a very young Jason Black back in Feb who was undefeated.
Its so sad how MMA (as with most industries) eat their young up. Jason Black was this unstoppable beast until Shonie beat him by decision......So Shonie gets a shot... A big one...With the UFC on the show in the house...
Then obviously gets jacked....
Come on......Even the UFC should know better...
I mean Matt Serra almost got KTFO again by a freakin Karate Kid III move?!?!?!?!!?
I am not one that automatically bends a knee about BJJ.. .I've been teaching, training, and competing in martial arts upwards of 19 years. And have been successful.
I as many, know to pay your respect where respect is do. But....Just to automatically screw over a real fighter (not a BJJ guy, not a kickboxer) for namesake only to be on TUF Finale???????
Sorry Serra, that's exactly what happened. You won that fight vs. Shonie only because you stuck up for Royce....
PERIOD!!!!!!

Pffft shonie got his ass whooped, plain and simple. I don't see how they could've given him that first round, i guess out of pity.
Other than that, matt serra overwelmed Phonie carter in the remaining two rounds and shonie at times, looked too gassed to do much but get thrown around in the cage.
Yay for Matt sera winning it and going to the finals, and phonie carter is DONE in TUF4

The Last Shonie Thread
Look, I knowi Shonie isnt the flashiest skilled fighter out there.
I just want normal MMA fans to acknowledge that he is a good fighter. I mean Serra bascially took a vacation from MMA, then automatically got in to the TUF house scenario.
But Shonie?
Nope. He only got on the radar by winning a KOTC title from Jason Black (who all of a sudden most MMA fans seem to have forgotten about).......Mr. Black was 20-0 and looked well on his way to just dominating the MMA world.
Until Mr. Carter showed up.....
All I want is for people to acknowledge (no I'm no SHonie NutHugger), that Shonie is a great scrappy weird fighter.........AND I DIG THAT ABOUT HIM!!!!
I mean Serra lost this fight.... It was the UFC and "family ratings" why he won.......
I guess I'm just crying for an old friend..........BTW, Shonie still has the KOTC belt, and I think he should be a bitch about it and bitch his way to as many $$$$$$$$ as he can get with it!:sport-smi

Shonie, "Phonie" carter, behaved like an annoying little attention whore on the show. And i'm SOOOOOO glad he LOST
Think about it: Maybe just MAYBE if he'd spent more time actually TRAINING for his next match, instead of trying to gain attention, he might have been able to beat matt sera tonight instead.
Apparently shonie thought it more important to parade around on the show like a jackass, instead of getting his act together and priorities straight. Well it showed tonight in his fight....

And with a straight face you can say Matt Serra won that fight huh?
With as "discplined" a fighter he is???
Or is Serra a fighter? Laimon has a point. Who exactly is Serra?
Except the guy who got KTFO by Shonie in 2000 and almost again in 2006??
With a straight face as a "fighter" you can say Serra beat Shonie huh?
Gimme a break.

How did Matt overwhelm shonie?
By gettting CAUGHT AGAIN and judo thrown half around the ring?
Then getting reversed time and again?
Shonie got out of every weak freakin 1994 submission Serra tried.
The ONLY REASON Serra won is because the UFC wanted to honor a Gracie product after what Matt did to Royce.
And Yes, I'd say that to Royce;s face, Matt's face, etc...
But I'd do it with respect.......
The UFC has an agenda and the agenda is to keep the BJJers happy for now. Cause everyone knows Shonie beat Serra on the show, but Shonie isnt in the UFC plan.

Like i said in that other thread, i don't see how shonie "won" that first round. They must've given to him out of PITY.
Because otherwise, Matt sera completly overwelmed shonie in the other two rounds for sure. You could tell Shonie was too GASSED to do anything, but lay there as matt threw him around the cage. Oh yes Matt sera won that one
Again, perhaps if shonie carter TRAINED instead of being a dumbass on the show, he may have done better and didn't gass out like that.

Come on, wasnt it obvious how they played it up with him and Laimon?
Pure theatrics!
Yes I am serious.
Put Serra (and i like him BTW) against even the most young naive talent in the UFC right now and see what happens?
But you wont
The reason why Shonie got an inconvenient loss decision. Oh, and BTW..
Where's Jason Black????
Mr. 20-0?

Shonie "jacked" up Black? Are you kidding? It was an injury stoppage. It was kind of a freak thing as well. Not taking anything away from the win because a win is a win. But it was hardly a jacking of any sort.
Edit: Just saw your other post. Where is Jason Black you ask? Fighting in Bushido and not on TUF. Doesn't seem to be doing so bad.

Matt Overwhelmed Shonie?
By standing in front of him doing nothing in rounds 2 and 3???
Just "gazing"???
Pure Long Island vs Pure Chicago.
I LOVE SERRA.. I really do!!!
But the fact is this... Serra won by name recognition only...
Almost got KTFO AGAIN by a spinning back-fist.
Shonie reversed every single position Serra put him in
So how did Serra win????
THE UFC and $$$$$$$....
But the UFC forgot something..
Shonie is the KOTC belt holder.
sorry to keep going there, but it's a fact!!!!!! Serra wants to go all "I'm a figher you're not" as much as I love Serra, he the last time I checked has no belts....
BUT SHONIE DOES!!!!
AGAINST A YOUNG UNDEFEATED GUY BTW!!!

C'mon! I bet if you made a poll on who won that fight, Shonie would get one vote and that would be from you. I can see giving Shonie the first round, but Serra controled the ground game in the last rounds. Yeah, Shonie would get up out of Serra having his back, but then mounted zero offense.
And please stop with the Serra was given the win for the Gracies. How many times do ppl have to say that the UFC has nothing to do with decsions giving by the judges.

Yup. Those last two rounds shonie looked pretty gassed, Matt was taking him down left&right, and throwing him around. Shonie could do very little against it, but struggle to get out of it(and when he did, it just lead to another takedown by matt).
It was like shonie was matt's BJJ training partner, and serra was praticing all his takedowns&wrestling on him. For that purpose i'd day shonie did pretty well

Judging from the fight itself, good fight between 2 veterans, these 2 guys are evenly matched again just like before. Matt was more offensive, and pressing the fight to get the points to earn the decision.

I dont think Carter won any round. The only one that he might have done ok in was the first and I would be ok with that round being a draw. The 2nd and 3rd rounds were Serra's via takedowns, control, and striking. In no way whatsoever did Carter even come close to winning that fight by a decision. Anyone that thinks otherwise is deluding themselves or just didnt watch the fight.
