Default Welcome to the U.S. Pride!

I want to be an MMA fan that is just that. An MMA fan. I welcome Pride to the United States and hope it does well. I'm not a #1 Pride fan, but believe it is a strong organization with outstanding talent and potential to be much more in other countries. In japan, no less, it is a juggernaut. Here it remains to be seen.

Pride has an uphill battle in the States. It's facing a UFC organization that has Vegas locked up and rakes in big $$$ to just about every major venue in Vegas on key dates. Few organizations have the power to headline a major event in Vegas on Superbowl weekend (The biggest $$ weekend of the year in Vegas).

However, my suggestion to Pride is to hire a large western based marketing firm (no I don't work for one. I'm a public servant). They need this in order to find the best ways to attract a western audience. Numbers Numbers Numbers. It's all about numbers here. With numbers, you'll get more recognition in everyday mainstream and you'll be able to rival and maybe surpass the UFC someday.

I love competition. It's the American way. So I wish the Pride organization, its fighters and managers all the best here to promote a sport which I believe deserves more respect and coverage than golf, bowling, poker, soccer, hockey, nascar and other "odd" games that nobody here in the states really cares about.

Good Luck Pride!

Agreed, but that's the only reason also, if Pride is not careful, why the UFC can easily overtake and own Pride in 5 years or so.

That's why Pride management is hesitant to sign their fighters to fight UFC fighters. Its not the talent level, its the fact the UFC wins in marketing alone win or lose, Pride still loses!

Dude don't act like you don't want to hear what Paul Walker's analysis of a fight is going to be. He is handsome, afterall.

I'll take it a step further. You know how the UFC has that Eddie Bravo scorecard? Well they should let Paris Hilton have a scorecard instead, along with allowing her to be a backstage reporter.

They should also have special nightvision effects for when she interviews fighters.

Sorry. Okay let's get back on topic now. It is great to know we get to see live Pride fights now. Waiting for 1 or 2 days and having to avoid results and the forum was tough. Hopefully they come back often.

Yeah I wonder how many times a year they'll try to have an event in the US now?

Please, no Paris Hilton in MMA. Jenna Jameson, o.k. because she acts more like a fan than a ditzy blonde.

And remember that Casem girl? They used her as an interviewer for like two UFC's back in the summer????

She's proof that not only blondes can be dumb.

I want more Pride in the U.S., but only if they get us more excited about it next time. I mean they need to get the word out! They have the talent, but that's just half of it. If you don't showcase your talent by pumping up and ad campaigning to death how good your fighters are? Nobody is gonna watch!

In fact, you help organizations like the UFC by doing nothing to promote your product. All the UFC has to do is do what they did Saturday by running some free BEST KO's show or something.

I think Pride can do well. IF they get the word out!

PRIDE Fighting will have another US event in Februrary 2007. As much as I liked this last event, it was not better than most UFC events. Some PRIDE Fighting hardcore fans will have a panic attack because I said that, but this first PRIDE FC event in the US was not the best PRIDE FC event of all time. They have many, many fighters that they could have showcased, but they dropped the ball.

Mark Hunt? Dropped from the card, he had a "visa" problem or some such. That was stupid. The guy should have been ready on all fronts long before that became an issue. Cro-Cop? Hey, I was not going to get this event without Cro-Cop. But, some friends came over, we were bored, and so we pitched in and bought the event. Wanderlei Silva was there, but did not fight. That was very disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the event and the fights. But, as the first US event for PRIDE Fighting, it should have showcased all of the very best and top fighters for PFC in a single event. I loved the Fedor-Coleman fight. That is what the HW division should be like, IMO. I liked all of the fights. But, I did not see anything that placed PRIDE Fighting above Ultimate Fighting. It seemed to me like this PRIDE event was the same or similar in matches to any UFC or KOTC events.

What made this PRIDE event better than KOTC and the UFC events was the format, and not the fights. They showed the entire fight card from the lower card to the main event. It was four hours (less without that intermission) of good PPV event. I have been clammering for the UFC to adopt that format for years now. Maybe the success of this PFC event will shake the UFC into giving us all of the fights that are on a PPV event rather than clipping off the preliminary bouts.

Yea.. but Pride is at a major disadvantage to UFC. UFC can promote their shows a lot with all the air time they get on spike TV.

I agree on the prelim bouts. The UFC only shows them if the main fights are short in duration, but the UFC should show them anyway because many times, those are the better fights.
