Josh Barnett overrated
Well, he does possess some ground skills but he is definitley overrated. He has absolutely no stand up game. And look at his last fight with Crocop, he was scared and he quit like a coward. Why in the world would any fighter care about what is in his opponent's eye and be concerned for him, kindly telling him about it and if he could remove it because, you know, us fighters want our opponents to be comfortable and if possible, not break a fingernail? I mean come on. This is combat, this is a case where I better get you before you get me. Immediately before an important fight, you are focused, determined win, ready to go, not care about..oh you have something in your eye, can you please remove it. To me, this showed Barnett was scared, so by being kind to Crocop, he somehow lessoned the fright. And a real elite fighter would not have quit. He got thumbed in the eye? so what. Big nog would have never quit. Thats why Nog is a force to be reckoned with. I have nothing agains Barnett. He just should have been focused at the beginning of the fight and not quit like he did and is a bit overrated.

Dude you're crazy. Barnett definitely deserves to be in the "elite" HW's. You know he beat Minotauro, right? Yeah he couldn't beat Mirko. So what? A lot of fighters can't beat Mirko. Also have some respect man. Just because he tapped out doesn't make him a coward. That is supposed to be the great thing about tapping out, not having to worry about criticism and living to fight another day.
And I have a feeling you have no idea what overrated means. Don't worry you are not alone in that.

And not to mention, he never gave up against Mirko until he said to the ref "I can't see anymore"
Mirko clocked Barnett left and right and Barnett was still right in there in the pocket.
Barnett was there until he was blind, and to me that shows more balls than a lot of fighters who sometimes tap because of things like "I heard a crack"...
Barnett hung with Cro Cop until he was blind...
That deserves a ton of respect!
"I fought and took some bombs from him. But when he hit me with that last bomb and I couldn't see where he was anymore, I knew it wasn't good for me. So I tapped cause when you can't see Cro Cop, that's trouble" - Josh Barnett OWGP tournament Sept 2006 - Pride

An elite fighter should never quit. Don't y'all agree. Coward was a bad word choice.

Mirko also beat Silva in the first few minutes. Barnett had to go the full distance with Big Nog and had to be worn down pretty badly by the time he fought Mirko. Who knows what would have happened if they would have both been 100% healthy going into the fight.
Also, I finally saw the fight between Barnett and Big Nog, and I clearly think Barnett won. I had heard things about Big Nog getting screwed, but the decision was crystal clear to me.
I don't like Barnett as much as Big Nog, CroCop, Hunt, and some of the other Pride HWs, but he definitely deserves his high world ranking. He is legit. I give more credit to Nastula rather than taking away credit from Barnett. Josh may not have had his best stuff, but he survived and still won by submission. And a beauty of a submission it was indeed!
Overrated? No. Underrated? Very possible.

No I don't think a fighter should never quit. When you're in an situation you obviously cannot get out of it's stupid to stay in there. Would you call a blind man a coward for not accepting a fight with Mirko? Obviously not, so why when an opponent can no longer see should he continue and risk his health unnecisarily?

[sarcasm] Yeah, lets have fights to the death! [/sarcasm] You guys are nutz. Tapping is what keeps you from getting killed or seriously injured in a fight. If you don't fight or roll, don't disrespect the tap. If you can fight through the things that make these guys tap, then you should be in there making the money instead of them. Josh is not a flashy fighter, but he has the knowledge, skills and luck to be at the top of the game. On a side note, I vote for Barnett -vs- Tim Silvia in the near future.

All I know is he took CroCops heaviest hits and hung in there.
Then gave up, but that's ok.
"I can't see anymore and when you can't see CroCop, that's trouble, so I tapped!"
Damn right!
That after 2 rounds with CroCop!

He's definitely a top HW. My list goes:
1. Fedor
2. Crocop
3. Barnett
4. Nog
5. Aleks

He beat Nog.Not even CroCop can say that. What's even more mind boggling is that he beat Nog in a fight that mostly took place on the ground.
The only people to beat him are CroCop and Rizzo in his prime.
Definitely not overrated.

I would say the exact opposite. Because he dosent possess the look of a fighter with that ripped six pack people tend to underrate him.
Josh definitly deserves his top ranking.

dude this isnt going into war... this isnt some kind of epic battle. This is a sport. Him showing concern for CroCrop and what was in his eye shows that this is a sport with real people with no macho bull ****. If you want something to get macho to go watch the wwf. You can see pretty violence and girls in little skippy clothes! Comments like that are what make me affraid to see mma go main stream. IMO you just dont get it! i am sorry if i am being a dick, but i hear that crap all the time when people find out i fight. it makes me sick but then again most of which try to relate from watching boxing.
