If Fedor was human his neck would have been broken.

normally when an opponent is slammed it does alot less damage after teh initial impact then one may think.... i think that if someone specifically targets the head or neck then it is a foul. liek if you were to grab a guy and pile drive him right on the top of his head, most slams that you see are rarely full power, there is slippage and the fact that the guy is prolly going to try and soften the blow somehow on his way down, now fedor and randleman or newton and hughes are exceptions they were both done very well but you will notice that when fedor got slammed he tilited his neck on teh way down so he would have a rolling action when he hit...... newton on teh other hand was completely unprepared and got powerbombed full force ( well of hughes weight anyways, he was knocked out ) i think that the rule is that if it is a malicious intent to injure then it will be a foul

It is actually believe it or not quite difficult to break someones neck with a judo throw or a german suplex, on a mat that is. A spike is when they sprwal on an opponent and pick him up and pile drive his head on the mat which is dangerous.

Suplexes and judo throws are not intended to spike the opponents on their head, but rather just to ground their opponents. Fighters often land on their head due to their resistance to the throw. Like lethalweapon said, the act has to be intentional to be a foul.

A spike is more like a pile driver or picking someone up and slamming them on their head with the body vertical to the mat.

Default UFC/Pride Hybrid Rules

Assume all of us had the ability to be on a commision funded by both the UFC and Pride in a collaborative effort to forge a merger.

Both organizations put you on a board to come to an agreement on what the rules should be. It's a board of 29 members. 12 like the UFC and slant that way, 12 like Pride and slant that way. The remaining 5 are MMA fans that could go either way or both.

How would you as one of those 5 who could decide how MMA would be run in the world come to an agreement with some who might disagree. And what would it look like?

The charter for such an organization is just this. "We want the best fights, with the best fighters. PERIOD!" Affiliation or camp is not an option. Although there are pre-requisites to being considered. You'd have to "Audition" so to speak in front of an MMA panel to qualify.

So.....what would be the Hybrid Rules should this happen?

And which fighters do you think would adapt best to "Hybrid Rules?"

What I like about Pride:

Tournaments
Lots of big names on PPV's
Depth of ranks (better pay = more top fighters)
Knees, kicks on the ground
10 minute first round
That screaming lady

What I don't like about Pride:

Yellow cards
The ring and the attendant relocations
More than one fight in one night
Stomping
No elbows

I'm not sure if I clearly stated my POV. I don't like that Pride doesn't allow elbows, and I don't like stomps because they're too dangerous.

Default MMA rules and regulations ????

were could I find a list of rules and regulations for Pride and UFC style of matches. For both amateur and pro-MMA matches.

The reason why I ask, is I have to give a presentation in front of my City Council on MMA. Theres some local bible thumpers that want to get it banned.

Ultimate Fighting rules:
http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=LearnUFC.Rules

http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=LearnUFC.FactSheet
PRIDE Fighting rules:
http://www.pridefc.com/pride2005/whats_rules.htm
There may be some differences in the PRIDE Fighting rules as they apply to Japan and to the USA. They had to change a few things for the Real Deal PPV that was in Nevada in order to satisfy the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Also, I am not sure that PRIDE Fighting or Ultimate Fighting (the UFC) have any ametuer MMA rules and regulations. Mostly, I think that you would have to go to local promotions and figure out what they have set up. ISKA Strikeforce has ametuer kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Jui-Jitsu, but I am unsure whether or not they have started ametuer MMA. K-1 MMA might have ametuer MMA, but (again) I am not sure about that.

If it is for a local deal there is no reason to bring up Pride's rules. Look at any of the major USA promotions websites and they almost always have all the rules and regulations posted. Check IFL, IFC, WEC, and promotions like that.
