Default UFC in Montreal

So did anyone else hear Dana White and the bearded guy I think another owner of the UFC telling St Pierre they were going to have a fight in Montreal? It was right after he got the belt they had a Camera about a foot away and you could hear them talking.

Dude, thanks for posting this. I saw GSP's reaction to something they said, but with all the screaming people in the bar I wasn't able to hear. I figured it was something good judging by GSP's reaction.

On a side note, Does anyone know who that bearded guy is?

Hey i'm new to this board. I'm a big fan of GSP/Loiseau/Cote and a big fan of Ultimate fighting in general.

If you're talking about this guy :http://www.combatultime.com/entrevuespatry.htm

His name is Stephane Patry, he's the TKO president and agent of most Canadian Fighters in the UFC right now. If i'm not mistaken, it was already in a contract that if GSP beat Hughes, the next or second defense of the belt would be held at the BELL Center in Montreal.

I'm not sure if M.Patry would be able to fill the Bell Center which holds about 25 000 seats but it would be a dream come true for Georges and all his fans in Montreal to finally see a live UFC event.

Personally, I dont think Diego will be able to take the belt away from GSP but I would love to see a rematch with BJ.

Welcome to the forum and a good first post also. Although it might not mean much they have UFC 68 listed on the rumors section of mmaweekly as being in Ohio. I would expect GSP to defend the belt at either 67 or 68, so I wonder when they will have the Montreal event.

I am sure it is just a matter of time before they have an event in Canada. Maybe the UFC is just assuming that GSP will dominate Serra for his first defense at 67 or 68 and then his first tough defense will be in Montreal in summer 2007.

I was really wondering what GSP got so excited about after the fight when those guys were talking to him. All I heard was "in montreal", and GSP getting really excited. Now I know.

This is great news. I'm a big fan of GSP, as a fellow Montrealer. It'd be great for a UFC event to be hosted here.

Cool thanks for the info. The guy I'm talking about has some gray in his beard and his hair is kinda slick back. I'll try to find a pic of the guy I'm thinking of.

I think it is illigal in Quebec. Last time something came up was Extreme Fighting championship in the 90's and the cops arrested the fighters. It was also held on an Indian reservatin to try to bypass Quebec law. The cops had none of it! Remember that? The law is the same in Quebec today.

Maybe in the early 90's but not any more bud. the only 2 province's that don't allow MMA fighting is Ontario and P.E.I.

If this happens, I will definitely be there. I think that all the people from FightForum that are going to the show should make an effort to get tickets in the same area or at least get together for a few drinks before / after the show. That would be too cool....

We'll be driving there from Hamilton, ON. Can't wait. I like the idea of meeting up for a few drinks before hand and we'll definately have to meet up afterwards for a drink to celebrate another GSP victory!

The bearded guy you're all talking about was one of the Fertita brothers -- I'm just not sure which one.

He said to Georges "We'll do the next one in Montreal." Georges said, "REALLY?!?" And when he confirmed it, Georges spun around and yelled "HOLY S**T!!"

So the question is, does "the next one" mean GSP's next fight (against Serra, I imagine), or his next fight with Hughes?

And to the guy who thought MMA was illegal in Quebec, it's been legal for quite a while, just not the octagon. However, Dana White went to bat on behalf of TKO and helped them gain acceptance of the octagon from the Quebec government. They've even loaned TKO an official UFC octagon for future events (no other organization can use an octagon without the UFC's permission).

It all makes sense, because they were just setting the stage for Montreal to allow the UFC to come in once GSP held the title.
