We had a guy come in over the summer. He was a "streetfighter" and said he didnt want to learn traditional BJJ, he just wanted to use what he knew because he felt he was "tough and had heart".
SO our instructor called up a friend of his who's a trainer at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) and the trainer said "Send him over".
So they did, and right away they tested him out on some mitt work.
Then some 5 minute rounds were to follow.
Then a 10 minute grappling round was to follow.
Then a 20 minute conditioning drill workout was to follow.
The guy didnt make it through 2 minutes of the mitt work.
Needless to say his "toughness and heart" were never seen in any MMA gym again. At least not in the San Jose area.
