New Matt Hughes blog.
Tuesday, November 21, 2006
First off, I'd like to say that Georges fought a heck of a fight. He's a nice guy and a well-rounded fighter and he's going to be tough to beat.
Number two, I'd like to thank everybody for all their support and I've already talked to the UFC about getting a rematch sometime and they said that's fine. I don't know when that will be or if I will fight anyone before that, but I anxiously await a rematch with Georges because I just think I can do so much better.
Going into the fight I felt very confident. Even up to the point where I lost, I really felt God was going to have me win that fight, but it wasn't His plan. I always pray that God's will is done before a fight and, as long as that's done, I'm happy and I'll definitely fight again. Even with a loss, I can't be anything but thankful for all that God has done in my life.
For those who might be worried about me, I'm fine. I've got some color to my face - a black eye and a few scabs and bruises; but this is not one of those things where I have to go out and 'redeem myself' so I can look myself in the mirror. I just got beat by a guy who was better than me that night and I can live with that. So, physically and mentally, I'm fine. -Matt

Thanks Ryduce. Nicely said by Matt Hughes. Glad to see him be the respectful guy he CAN be. I just hope people in turn will show him enough respect in this thread to not refer to him as country breakfast.

From that it sounds like matt may have walked into that fight overconfident, and wasn't fully prepared for the kind of onslaught GSP was bringing to the game.
Well losses happen.

"In order to learn how to win, you must FIRST learn how to lose. The sign of a true champion is not how he wins, but how he handles a defeat. Does he let it crush his spirit, or will he only let it motivate him even MORE to come back stronger?".
And
"Everybody loses one. If you never lose a match, you simply aren't facing the right opponents."
Now you know who said those little tokens of wisdom? Yup you guessed it...
Me haha! Who'd you think it was? But it all applies here i believe. (well the second one was a heavily modified matt hughes saying).

I can't believe Hughes is using god as an excuse ("... it wasn't His plan"). Dude, GSP kicked your a$$ and it had nothing to do with god or a plan (except, perhaps, Hughes' lack of one). I like Hughes but I don't think he'll regain the title while GSP is around.

Um? Wtf? "I just got beat by a guy who was better than me that night and I can live with that." That's not using God as an excuse. I sometimes wonder if people around here have selective reading.

lol. Nice post, sitnspin
It's good to see Hughes respectful and in good spirits. I personally don't like Hughes, but he's one of those guys I love to hate.
I can't wait to see how he does when he comes back, against GSP again, or whoever.

Yes, he was humble, and he has been since the loss. He seems to be a better man in defeat than in victory.

it seems as though it was a lesson in humility, perhaps a much needed one.
i think that most champs have a sense of confidence, in fact soem guys feed off of it to saty competitive. look at tito, or even big tim (who claims he is gonna knock out every oponent he has, yet cant seem to finish as of late). my point is that many champs are quite cocky, whereas others arent. maybe its whatever that individual needs to do to get pumped up for the fight...

very good blogging by matt, a dose of humility is always a good thing. I am excited to see him fight Sanchez ::crosses fingers::
The whole UFC is changing, next we will see Tim lose his belt and then Chuck or Tito will be the last oldschooler holding onto a belt...

No kidding. If you think he used God as an excuse you just want to have a problem with him. Personally I loved what he said about God. Not the part saying, "God has a plan on who should win the fight" because Im not sure if he does, maybe he does sometimes and maybe he doesnt...I just dont know. However, I love him saying, "win or lose I thank God for the opportunity to do my best." That is something we all can learn from. "God, no matter how this pans out I just want to say thanks for the opportunity."

LOL it's funny because its true Besides Jesus would like him to be humble, since the meek shall inherit the Earth and lambs and stuff.
It was good to see a little humility, as for the God talk, it's no shock, Matt has always been a deeply religious guy, not my thing, but I respect he has his beliefs, we all have that right.
Regardless, here's to hoping he is back in the ring soon.

Good lord. That is not an excuse. Christians believe that God has a plan for their lives to follow. When something doesn't go the way you wanted it to you try to ease your mind by remembering that God makes everything happen for a reason. He's just trying to cope with it. Get off his back. I don't even like Hughes and I'm sick of the crap he gets.
