Telligman Will Fight At 54!(doh Wanted Mike Kyle)
The MMAWeekly crew is in Las Vegas and has followed this story from start to finish. It was a fight that was on, then off, now it's back on again. Tra Telligman has passed his medicals will will be featured in the swing bout at UFC 54.
Telligman had not completed his medicals when he arrived in Las Vegas this week. After originally taking his medicals in Las Vegas, he had to re-take a test to be cleared to fight on Saturday night. Evidently, the testing had to do with some expired blood tests. Those results came back and Tra Telligman will face Tim Sylvia at UFC 54.
His opponent Tim Sylvia said "I'm just relieved. I just wanted to fight. I didn't care about who, I just spent all that time wanting to fight and now I have a fight" Sylvia told MMAWeekly.
Tra had a little more to say about it though. "I'm sure that Tim's relieved. I know how it is when you're expecting to fight and then at the last minute, your opponent pulls out and the fight is gone," said Tra. But despite the stress that he has been under worrying about getting the testing done, Tra is confident, "I'm a better boxer. But I expect this fight to end up in a submission." A little bit of a surprise since both fighters really like to stand and trade more than go to the ground.
The fight is expected to be the swing bout on the pay per view telecast. Here is the order that has been discussed for this week's pay per view. Look for the official order to be solidified later tonight.
(also in order)
MAIN CARD
- Frank Trigg vs Georges St.Pierre
- Diego Sanchez vs Brian Gassaway
- Randy Couture vs Mike Van Arsdale
- Tim Sylvia vs Tra Telligman (swing bout)
- Jeremy Horn vs Chuck Liddell

This is good news. Although you could have posted it in the Telligman may not fight at 54 thread. Just a suggestion

I think that's what they call the fight that is a filler basically. If some fights don't go past the first round then they have a fight to fill the gap. I could be wrong though.

Heh, shows how much I know about the UFC. I figured a "swing bout" was a fight between two guys that just like to stand up and swing away.
I have a lot of learning to do. :/

No, you are correct. A swing bout is a bout that is televised if some fights end quick and they need to fill air time. It surprises me though that they have chose this fight that may not be aired. I hope this isn't the case as i really like watching Sylvia fight.

Right on. As for Sylvia/Telligman being the swing bout, I was disappointed with this decision. I would much rather see them than Lutter/Prangley, or Lindland/Doerksen. Sylvia and Telligman is a much better matchup then both of those fights. It's going to be a slugfest. Telligman even in his losses looked impressive and Sylvia is just a great fighter. Yet another dumb decision by Dana.

I think you guys are misunderstanding what a swing bout really is. Is there a chance that it won't be shown? Yes, but it is a very small chance. Every UFC event has a swing bout and I can't recall the last time that it wasn't shown. Something very major and drastic would have to take place that eat up ALOT of time for the swing bout not to be shown.

Lutter/Prangley and Lindland/Doerksen are both undercard fights so you won't have to worry about seeing them on the PPV.
