Bernard Hopkins just interviewed on the Jim Rome Show
Rome: "Bernard, what do you think about Mixed Martial Arts, the UFC, and do you respect those guys"
Hopkins: ...Do I respect them as in they get up and run everyday and go to battle, yeah, but there is no art in a street fight. I could go to a bar in the hood and find a ufc fighter. There is no art in elbowing someone on the ground or slapping the mat...Am I hating on it, maybe maybe not...there is no comparison to the art of boxing and street fighting. No art in the UFC...
He ended the MMA discussion with this ...
"oh and as for how i would do...i would GET MY ASS KICKED. They would flat out whoop my ass.
I am paraphrasing, but he said all of that and then some.

Why is it that we keep hearing boxers talk with a feeling of superiority? And I know, its not all boxers. And in their defense, we aren't getting the reports of boxers defending MMA. But I just get this feeling that a big part of the boxing scene doesn't respect MMA. I think most MMA fans appreciate the sport of boxing, as it is one of the facets of MMA.
I'd like for someone to take Bernard Hopkins into the ring, not throw any strikes of any kind, take him down, and submit him over and over again. Lets see if he doesn't find any art in that.

Hopkins doesn´t even make sense. Basically he is saying his "art" is less than "no art". lol.

I give Bernard props for understanding that in a real fight a boxer would not be able to hang with an MMA fighter. Bernard is a VERY good boxer, one of the best of our time.

Why are guys surprised that boxers dont give a whole lot of respect to MMA?? Its still not a real popular sport. For instance Im in DC for a week and asked a few friends where I could catch UFC 71 and everyone was like "UFC? Whats that?" Its not nearly as popular as we like to believe. Most people can only use UFC 1,2 and 3 as their point of reference. And a lot of the smaller shows are really marketed like a street fight. Chuck is the biggest MMA star in America and he looks like a biker...He has a mohawk and a tatoo on his head. What do you think people are gonna say when they first see him and now little about MMA? The second biggest star is Ortiz..Do I even need to say anything about him? You should be happy he said he repects that they train hard and fight and admitted he would lose. What more do you want from a guy who probably eat drinks and sleeps boxing......And with everyone always talking about MMA taking over boxing, what do you expect them to say?
