So far in this thread the suggestions to keep yourself from getting a staph infection is don't wash off after rolling and wash off after rolling. Which ones the truth?

Who suggested not washing off?
Clearly the right thing to do is wash yourself (especially if you **** on yourself) AND the mats regularly.
But obsessing about germs in general is counterproductive.
And the over-use of antibiotics has caused a lot of problems.
But when you get staph, you need to get them STAT.

One of our instructors explained it like this... When you're training, your pores are opened up, dumping out sweat. Bacteria such as Staph and fungus such as Ring Worm can get into said pores. When you sit down, cool off and relax (drive home), your pores close back up, locking all that stuff in. Not showering immediately after class is a good way to get shunned at my BJJ academy A lot of guys use Selson Blue Medicated shampoo to wash off, supposedly it's an effective way to kill that stuff. Whether it works on MRSA Staph is anybodies guess. Scary stuff indeed
