Unpredictability - MMA’s greatest attribute
The threads with the PRIDE -vs.- UFC fighters, and how fighters don’t do very well in UFC once coming from PRIDE got me thinking about this. One of the reasons I love MMA, is it’s unpredictability. You really never know what will happen. Look at all the “upsets” this year. Who in the world could have predicted that Gabriel Gonzaga would KO Mirko Cro Cop in the FIRST ROUND? And that is only one example!
Wanderlei Silva’s time in the UFC was not nearly as impressive as his time in PRIDE.
Chuck Liddell was dominate in the UFC, and beaten like an amateur by Quinton Jackson in PRIDE.
And what about all the strange endings? Injuries, a guy KO’d from a body shot catches the other guy with one last shot and they both crumple to the mat? Reality show winners K.O. of an far superior fighter for the TITLE?
I don’t think it matters if you come from PRIDE, KOTC, UFC, or any other org. Who’s still rising to the top, who’s on the decline, who’s having a better night, who has the better game plan and is actually able to excecute it, and LUCK, determines the winners. Every second, decision, mistake, and fluke accident can change the outcome of a fight at any time.
Man, you can never really know what might happen in a MMA match, and that’s why it’s the only sport I watch, participate, and work in.
