The Best Camps in MMA today
Hi guys...
I thought in honor of tonight's UFC we could discuss the state of the big MMA camps: the ones moving up, the one's falling down and the cream of the crop. My thoughts are as followed and in no particular order:
The Elite Camps:
Xtreme Couture (regardless of the stupidity of the name)
Greg Jackson's camp
American Top Team
American Kick Boxing Academy
Team Quest
Camps on the Decline:
Militech Fighting Systems
The Lion's Den
Chute Box (sadly)
Camps on the Incline:
Renzo Gracie's Team
I know I left a lot out. I'm not sure where to put camps like Brazilian Top Team and I know I have focused primarily on American camps. That's why I'm opening it up to the forum! Let's see what we come up with.

What about Silva's camp. I think it is called Black House or something along those lines. They got the Nog brothers, Anderson Silva, and Lyoto Machida. I'd say it is hard to find a camp with that many guys of that caliber.

Yeah, I think they changed the name to Ironhouse, but yeah. Kickass camp.

Good lists. Here's how I see them and each's progression over the last year.
Elite
Xtreme Couture - MMAXtreme Couture - MMA
Greg Jackson's Submission Fighting
American Top Team
American Kickboxing Academy
Black House
Second Tier
Chute Boxe - declining
Team Quest/Temecula - no change
Miletich Fighting Systems - declining
Brazilian Top Team - declining
Penn MMA - no change
Red Devil Sport Club - no change
3rd Tier
Lion's Den - declining
Lion's Den Dallas - declining
Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu - increasing
Team Quest/Portland - no change
Team Sityodtong - increasing
Team Link - increasing
Universidade da Luta - increasing
HIT Squad - increasing
I personally make a distinction between Henderson's Team Quest and Lindland's TQ.
There are a few more new schools worth mentioning. I'll add to them later.

When did they make the name change? I know for awhile they didn't seem to have an official name, but yeah I agree with you that that doesn't change the fact that they are top notch now.

Silva holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, earned under reigning UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira. Silva is currently part of the Iron House fight team. You may know this formidable bunch better under their former name of "Black House" (the name was changed around the time of UFC 79 reportedly due to trademark reasons). Silva trains alongside Lyoto Machida, Paulo Filho, Vitor Belfort and the Nogueira brothers.

Second paragraph of the Silva vs. Hendo fight breakdown.

Thanks for the additions guys. I really like this thread b/c I think there is a lot to learn for all of us. There are so many camps now and with the big ones franchising, they may have to be broken down like Quest. What about some Japanese camps?

^^I agree, I just sat here clicking those links for a good 30 minutes
Lots of good tutorial has and interviews also. I now know that Bj Penn's favorite color is charcoal gray/royal blue.

Aika will likely be able to help a lot on the Japanese (and Korean) camps. The ones I hear/read the most about are the Krazy Bee and U-File. Krazy Bee, formerly known as Killer Bees, is the home of Kid Yamamota and Akira Kikuchi. U-File is a huge team, featuring guys like Kiyoshi Tamura and Daisuke Nakamura. Mach Sakurai has his own, Mach Dojo. And finally, Grabaka has a very successful team including Kazuo Misaki and Akihiro Gono.

Call me weird kung fu fighting ninja movies freak from the 80's
But I want a really good fighter one day to come out of the woodworks with an aura of mystery surrounding his training. Just a great well rounded fighter who refuses to disclose where he trains and who with. Just that he trains.
It'd bring some entertainment and mystery into the MMA world.
But that's just me.
