MMA Weekly Rankings
I don't understand the lack of respect for the UFC's LW division from these guys. If BJ Penn is not in your top 5 at 155 and you still have Gomi ranked #1 then that part of your ranking has to lose a lot of credibility. Still, I think it's a good list overall. I have some issues with their 205 rankings (I love Shogun, but you can't put him at #2 right now) and 185 (Dan Henderson at #9?!?!), but I think they nailed HW and WW.

BJ at 7? That's just silly.
Aoki over JZ
At least the #1 HW is correct.

I just don't understand the contempt for BJ in these rankings, he's a damn freak. Whenever fighters are asked who they think the top P4P fighters are, BJ's name comes up in every discussion. How that translates to 6 LW's being better than him is beyond me.

yea i agree about bj
id respect their rankings because every system has their own criteria...but at least be consistent
you cant use one phase of logic to make BJ Penn # 7 and not apply it to Fedor...leaving him at #1
its just weird

I don’t like the attitude of some of the fans who always like to complain. When they say if you had a quick fight that they wished it was longer and if you have a long fight they say you should have beaten this guy quicker. Some people you just can’t please. If it is so easy, they can put on a glove and do it themselves. I’ll watch them fight.

Exactly. They are using "what have you done for me lately" logic obviously, yet Fedor is still atop the HW's.

These rankings are rediculous! I think we could do a better job here on FF picking our own top ten for each weight class. We already do it for UFC, we could do one for all of MMA too. It really bothers me to see BJ Penn at number seven!

Thats messed up no one shows love for B.J Penn , he is a top five fighter in 155 and everyone on this site knows it , and he also should be in the top ten in at 170 as well.

Can someone tell me who BJ Penn has beaten in the last 5 years in the lightweight division to justify this huge ranking? A 145 lb Jens Pulver and a fish out of water Joe Stevenson doesnt equate to a top 5 ranking.
Kawajiri vs BJ would be dirty

Takanori Gomi via Rear Naked Choke ring a bell? A submission win over the #1 on the list is good enough for me. He beat Renzo and former p4p front runner Matt Hughes during that stretch too, including controversial losses to current 205lb contender Lyoto Machida and current top p4p'er Georges St. Pierre. How BJ's skills diminished since he beat Gomi, simply by fighting out of his weight class is beyond me. BJ without a doubt proved he belongs near the top of P4P lists, yet he doesn't deserve to be tops in his division? It seems as though he's more technically sound and in better shape than ever, not to mention more determined and just all around scary as hell @ 155.
Whether Joe was a fish out of water or not, he appears on that top ten and BJ absolutely steamrolled him. More telling than the beating he laid on poor Joe, was the pace he did it at. BJ came forward the whole time, cool, calm, collected, executing his gameplan perfectly and dominated. He's just nasty.

Im not saying he isnt nasty, compare the wins IN WEIGHT CLASS for him vs Gomi, Kawajiri, JZ, Aoki, Hansen, Ishida, Melendez, etc. Not even close.
Oh and LOL @ close decision vs Machida, Machida won that fight hands down

I thought so too, but people think it was close considering the huge gap in their weights. Back in the day of the 10kg handicap in PRIDE, stranger things have happened.

I think those rankings are pretty good. I'm sure BJ will move up a spot or 2 after the finishing of Sherk last night. Overall pretty good rankings. Everyone is going to have the perfect set of rankings in mind but truth is that doesn't exist.
