Default Fantasy Fight: Dan Gable vs. Rickson Gracie

Who do you think was better overall in his particular style?

What if they competed in a wrestling match, assuming equal weight (and uh, both in their prime)? Who do you think would be the winner?

What about in a grappling match Abu Dhabi style?

It's interesting to think about, I think Gable would've stepped it up to learn how to avoid submissions, he had that kind of intensity in training and was quick to pick up wrestling, probably would be the same for most grappling. I think avoiding submissions would've been his main problem since that was never his game. However, I don't think that would've been much of a problem for Rickson, who would've subbed him anyways. If he didn't manage though, I see a loss on points due to Gable's probable superior takedowns and control.

In a wrestling match I think Gable would've won no problem. Rickson doesn't have any sort of incredible sprawl and Gable being the most dominant wrestler ever probably would've taken him down and pinned him quick enough. Rickson may have been able to trap Gable in a guard, but that's easy enough to pin someone in.

In wrestling Rickson would get pwned. Gable is the man when it comes to wrestling. (as a wrestler and a coach) When you add in submissions Rickson would have the advantage. But if Gable (in him prime) trained to avoid them and knew what to look to avoid he could win but it would not be easy. With out any training ahead of time he would be choked out.

I think Rickson would pwn him if they were both in their primes in their respected styles. Gracies like to work from their back and I wouldn't see Gable really passing Rickson damn good guard. I don't know though. I ahve seen Gable wrestle and he very very good. It's a toss up for me.
