Wow, Japanese language (and Chinese) is more complicated than I thought. Still, it looks really cool, even if I have no clue what it means.

There are between 45,000 and 50,000 kanji symbols, though most people know around 3,000 and there are only about 2,000 that are designated as Joyo Kanji, or frequently used. The "On" (pronounced like the word own) or "Kun" (pronounced like coon) reading refers to the sound you make when you read it. On is the way the Chinese would have said it at the time the symbol was introduced in Japan, though modern day Mandarin may very well pronounce it differently. The Kun reading is the native Japanese way of saying it.

I've always wanted to learn a second language, could this be the opportunity? I can't even imagine how hard it would be to read Japanese let alone speak it, I need to get myself a Japanese bride. :D

Oh, and think about this.. kanji has both an 'on' and 'kun' reading.. most of the time you can tell what it means using the context of what you are reading but sometimes you run into those that can go both ways.. so yeah, each symbol can mean two words basically... for example the kanji for hi (日) can mean sun or day.. take (日照) for example.. it has the kanji for sun and the kanji for bright.. so you could read it as 'sunshine' or 'sunlight'.

To make it more complicated, hi is also a kana syllable in both hiragana (ひ) and katakana (ヒ)... which does NOT mean 'sun' or 'day' but used as alphabet to form words such as the example of sunlight にっしょう, (nisshou) for example.

Not getting into the fact that some words that are hi become ni... ka to wa.. yeah. I study every day and have for a few years now and I still don't understand most of it.

I did a quick wiki reading of the history of the symbols, but I have never understood who sits there and draws these little things. Seems like each one would take a few minutes. And if you curved one line wrong it could become a racial slur.

And I would like to take the opportunity to thank Aika in advance for his decade of hard work! Looking forward to a thorough translation!

Good, so you'll be importing the book for me.

Man, I gotta get my hands on that book and see what all is in it, but without being able to know what the kanji is so I can convert it to kana so that I can actually read it and then sometimes stop to look it up in my dictonary.. it would take at least a decade to work my way through, especially seeing as it took me 30 minutes to get just those two sentences down and scan thru to see anything they may have missed on the first post.. yeah. It would never get completed.

Ok, a few elaborations.. with mistakes possible, because my Japanese is still bollocks, as the UKers say.

The Evander Holyfield blurb.. get this.. Akebono vs Holyfield.
The reality show was "in early planning"

Two interesting ones that they left out..
幻のUFC日本進出計画とミルコの関係
"UFC's scheme to use Mirko for Japanese expansion"

K-1への宣戦布告だったミルコvsヒーリング

(this one doesn't translate too well, but something about Mirko's signing being a declaration of war to K-1, but it also mentions healing. Prior to 2003 give or take, K-1 and PRIDE co-promoted events, shared talent from time to time, and got along well.. but then it became all out war between the two sides, with K-1 getting into MMA thru Romanex and then HEROs.. maybe the signing of Crocop by PRIDE signaled an end to 'good relations' and the beginning of 'war' between DSE and FEG?)

Man, I'd love to get my hand on an English version of this....

A new book has been released in Japan today. This book is by Kamipro and is about PRIDE and some of the plans that never happened. I found a list of some of the content on Kakutolog (who found them on the cover of the book).

Here is some of the content (keep in mind, there could be some errors in there):

The true ambition of Lorenzo when he bought PRIDE.
DREAM was born from the PRIDE LW GP that was supposed to happen in 2008.
PRIDE.1 was Takada vs. Rickson and Sakuraba vs. Renzo.
Something about Akira Maeda making an entry in the opening performance of Takada vs. Rickson, with a !? after.
The plan of Riki Choshu, Shinya Hashimoto and Masakatsu Funaki participating.
The other side of the termination of Royce vs Kerr.
Keisuke Kuwata (singer) vs. Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi (singer) realization by PRIDE?
Something about a sumo wrestler (KONISHIKI) acquisition of PRIDE.
A plan about a reality show.
Something about Holyfield.
Big Van Vader participation in PRIDE.
PRIDE Bushido was PRIDE Survival.
PRIDE Lightweight division was born from the life or death crisis of PRIDE Bushido.
Plan of Bushido being televised by NTV.
Mike Tyson vs. Mirko, Fedor, Nogueira.
Takanori Gomi vs. Boxing champ Tokuyama Masamori was close.
There was a plan for Kiyoshi Tamura to be the Tiger Mask of MMA.
GSP and Kimbo should have been in PRIDE.
About the backstage stuff on the materialization of Sakuraba vs. Tamura.
The PRIDE revival that was planned in secret.
