Default Poll: MMA vs Pro Wrestling

I've heard people say that most MMA fans are Wrestling fans. I hate Wrestling, but I know some here love it. I'm curious about the numbers. Obviously you're a fight fan, but what do you think of Wrestling?

Just admit it.

You know you're watching RAW right now,and you're getting ready to go see John Cena's new movie.

Not true. I don't even know who John Cena is. He's one of those roided-out loudmouth stuntmen pretend fighters isn't he?

I don't love it hate it or anything. I'm indifferent. I don't watch it but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I used to love when I was a lad but I got no beef. It's just entertainment. I don't know why people get so upset that people like it. And it's not even because I am like oh it's so fake or anything. I just don't like the filth that goes along with it in the storylines.

Damn you Bomber! LOL I thought this was a thread about a new PPV event featuring MMA fighters versus pro-wrestlers. Too bad Dana White cannot be a part of this poll. He said that the WWE was "fantastic" not very long ago. Antonio Inoki would be in my camp as well as a guy that knows pro-wrestling and MMA better than most anyone. Ken and Tito would get a kick out of this as well, both had pro-wrestling jobs at one time. But, as far as fans go, think about it. There are millions of MMA fans out there, and we represent only about 3000 of them. What will a poll like this prove?

i have to say i love it, to be honest its more of a soap opera to me than a "fight" or "wreslting" show. i find myself ordering the PPVs (i get them for free), and recording raw on my sky +, i have to kepp up to date.

iv been a fan since i was 5 years old and iv seen more wreslters come and go than i care to remember, i also love MMA now to, both completly different and both completly fantastic.

sidenote: i dont like women wrestling or any of the women in wrestling either, plus i can predict the outcome of 90% of the matches before they start, i.e the good guy will loose only through outside interference or will win when outside interference is diverted, or via DQ, titles wil never change hands unless on a PPV and the bosses of the shows will always never just sit in their offices

EXACTLY!!! pro wrestling is soap opera for guys.

And all the chicks in pro wrestling are secretly ugly. Take a long look at Trish Stratus sometime.

I have two words for you: Stacey Keebler! WHOOOOOOOOOOO!

I am not much into women's pro-wrestling because they do NOT take the same risks and chances that the men do, which means that it is less exciting.

And, I wanted to add another point unrelated to your post. While pro-wrestlers may be glorified stuntmen, do not forget that they do what they do in a single take in front of a real life live crowd at some local arena or stadium. There is no second chances to get it right. That is the art of pro-wrestling. The exhibition of athletic skill, not the pure competition of skilled fighting.

It is like a magician's act. If you see how the magician is tricking you, then the magic is gone. Pro-wrestling is an art form more than anything else. If you watch and you see blatantly fakeness in a match, then the magic is gone. That is why pro-wrestlers go through training that is equal to what any MMA fighter goes through. That is why the WWE regularly holds dark matches. Making it look real while being able to do it again every night is NOT easy no matter what anyone here says.

I love wrestling. when people bash on it I wonder what their problem is. I mean why do you feel the need to tell me how fake it is? Im a grown ass man, you dont think I know some of those moves would kill you if done correctly?? I was a kid once I tried the moves. And you know what, its just as fun now that I know they arent really mad at each other or really punching each other. I dont watch it all the time but I do try to keep up. And if its on when Im watching TV Im gonna catch some of it. I think it was probably the most fun for me when they had the Rock and Stone Cold..those guys were just too funny. I honestly cant understand why you dont like it. I know its staged and all but some of the stunts they do are just crazy and the characters and I admit I still get pissed when one of the villians wins by cheating even though I knew it would happen...Like someone else said its a Soap Opra for men.

as a kid i used to love wrestling, i guess i did'nt know any better. MMA was underground during my teen years and occasionally i would watch boxing but wrestling got the most of my attention. thankfully MMA is so much more accesible than ever before and i can follow the sport more easily. i still see wrestling as good entertainment.

For those who asked why I started this thread, it's because I've heard people in this forum say that most MMA fans are Wrestling fans, and I didn't believe it. I just want to see what the percentage is.

I think that you are taking that to the extreme. The poll will not prove what you say. Those that admit that they like pro-wrestling are usually ridiculed. I doubt that they will even vote in the poll. I don't care what people think. I like pro-wrestling and NOTHING that ANYONE says will change my mind. I am my own man.

You need an indifferent choice. My kid loves it and I'll watch it with him to be able to spend time with him, but I can't manage to get into it. I have to say that there are some amazing athletes in it to be able to pull off some of the high flying moves at their size.

Not a fan of wrestling anymore. I used to love it when I was a kid. Back in the day with Hulk Hogan, the Iron Sheik, and Andre the Giant. But I grew up and realized what it really was. My girl says that MMA is just like pro wrestling which drives my crazy. I like seeing real fights.

That is a very honest answer. I don't like that it implies that only children watch or appreciate pro-wrestling, which is completely false. But you are being honest and nobody can take that away from you. Nobody is forced to like pro-wrestling. What I dislike is the misinformation and ridicule that some people (not you specifically) will apply to pro-wrestling fans. I like pro-wrestling, so I'm like a five year old? That is just wrong. Pro-wrestling is definately not aimed at children. The target market demographic is 18-35 and not 5-10 or whatever. Parents allow children to watch, which I find disturbing for both pro-wrestling AND the sport of MMA.

I used to love WWF back in the day when they had British Bulldog, Ultimate Warrior, Sargeant Slaughter, Jimmy Snuka, The Barbarian etc etc Think it was the early to mid 90's when I went off it. Cant say I really enjoy it too much now, although I dont hate it, its just not my thing anymore.

IMO There's too much emphasis on the storylines these days rather than on the matches. Obviously storylines/feuds have always been in wrestling but from what Ive seen recently it seems to take priority over the fights. The other day I had one of the WWE shows on Sky One in the background while I was tracklisting a mix cd and in the hour that the show was on they showed one 10 minute fight and the rest of it was just soap opera type stuff.

Like I said, its not my thing anymore, its all about MMA and kickboxing for me but pro-wrestling is still successful so who am I to knock it.

(btw I didnt vote in the poll as there isnt an 'indifferent' option)

Reading your description, you're clearly someone I intended would vote that "Wrestling is OK". What I was visualizing was a sort of take it or leave it, doesn't bug me, don't love it choice. I agree though, my wording wasn't good.
