Great fights or great fighters?
Great fights or great fighters? there are alot of incredible fights out there that feature unknowns that have alot more action and intensity than many fights featuring the top names in the sport. do you need the big names in the sport to have a great show or can you put together a great show that features non-stop action but no big names. KOTC puts on some incredible shows that have more substance than some UFC cards but in most cases no one seems to care since they may not recognize the names on the card.

I'd like to answer like a hardcore MMA fan and say that it's all about the great fights rather than great fighters, but I can't completely do it. There has to be a mixture of both to make the fight special.
Like you said, there are probably fights all over the world that are five-star classics, and then there are one-minute dominations like Silva/Franklin last month. I'd obviously rather see a five-star classic from Silva/Franklin, but I guess that's not an option here.
In the perfect world, a combination of both would be ideal. But in all honesty, and I have to be honest here, I'd rather watch the Franklin/Silva domination over a five-star classic from two guys in Greenland. I enjoy watching the best in the world.

a five star classic between Silva and Franklin would have been awesome. you could say it was a 5 star beat down. i am sure it will make the Ultimate Knockouts DVD next time around.

I just answered "a little of both" because great fighters produce more great fights than adverage fighters MOST of the time...in MMA you can put two nobodys up there and see a great show...in my opinion, it's a little of both.

What I love is when a seemingly boring fight turns out to be a great fight. Those are the ones that you remember.
If you're a great fighter, it goes without saying you'll be remembered. As nutty as Mike Tyson is now, his last 10 years of fighting sucked! But he'll always be in the history books as a great fighter and the youngest to ever get a HW title.
But great fights?
That's more rare. Rob McCullough vs. Olaf Alfonso WEC Cinco De Mayhem this year. THat KO of Olaf was better than Cro Cop vs. Wanderlei!!
Great fights, not necessarily great fighters.
Yet. (I'm talking not great fighters in that Olaf Rob McCullough fight)

thats tough...for me it's just really hard to get into a fight if I dont know something about the fighters....I think Id rather watch an ok fight with fighters I know more than a great fight with fighters I dont. Part of what makes it a great fight to watch is the speculation...the personal connection....I mean I will watch Hughes fight anyone....and the whole time IM hoping Hughes will lose.....GSP War..lol...but for me thats what makes a fight great....great action doesnt make for a fight I want to see all by itslef
