60 MInutes to Air Special on MMA
I heard on the Tito ORtiz website that 60 minutes will air a segment on MMA featuring the IFL and will interview coaches Pat Miletich and Renzo Gracie. They'll focus the report on the growing popularity of the sport as well as many of the state athletic commissions in the country now sanctioning MMA as a well regulated fighting sport.
The report also said they'll be interviewing Matt Hughes and a few UFC fighters who train under Miletich.
Should be interesting and we'll see how an ultra-liberal news magazine show will portray MMA.

Nice. They shouldn't be as sensationalist as some of the other shows, that have done stories on MMA.
I didn't know they were "ultra-liberal" though lol.
Probably the best news program out there imo. In the US anyway.
I guess I'm just a commie then.

OK I'll re-word it.
They slant liberally in an ultra inventive manner.
And no you're not a commie.

Yeah I agree, 60 minutes more often then not seems to "favor" the liberal audiences. Then again, most of the media is very liberal.

I don't see why the """""ultra-liberals""""" care. Isn't it you conservatives who seem to have the problem with all the violence in MMA?

O boy... I'm sure a lot of you people seen this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uKxx...h=dana%20white
I really hate Bill...he is the most stubborn/ignorant person I have ever seen on the news...he comes in with his predetermined ideas and looks like a jackass ...I really didn't like how Dana and Rich tried to defend MMA because they did a pretty bad job IMO...I would have torn Bill apart in this interview.
"They'll focus the report on the growing popularity of the sport as well as many of the state athletic commissions in the country now sanctioning MMA as a well regulated fighting sport."
I'm assuming that CBS isn't going to be negative about MMA after MTK posted that...

I agree. 60 minutes has been a necessary watch-dog. I hope they are unbiased in representing our sport. And your later Colbert quote is on my bumper. Friggin classic moment in his speech.

Mark it though just in case I'm right.
And for the record, Al Gore also called MMA human cockfighting. And boxing too.

Hey I like 60 minutes.
They were the first to expose Michael Jackson publicly for what he was.
After 10 years of playing nice with him.

MMA and Abu Ghraib? They matched those two stories together tonight on 60 Minutes? That sounds bad.

That's what I mean. It's the subtlty of what it is trying to say because of the slant of 60 minute Editors that sucks.
Anyway, we'll see what we see. To say 60 minutes is controversial is an understatement. I just hope they cast a positive shadow on MMA.
I do like recent news orgs like MSNBC and FOX and Reuters who have done fair reporting (aside from jackass Bill o Reilly) on MMA. They focus on the fact that MMA fighters arent the stereo-typical "Dummy" like Boxers are portrayed as. In fact Larry Merchant a few boxing matches ago called fighters no matter how smart educationally "Dumb" to be fighters.
I hope MMA is seen as a thinking man's sport such as football etc.
And hope 60 minutes is fair to MMA tonight.

From what I've seen, 60 minutes can put together any types of stories.
Something horrific followed by a little chat with Barbra Streisand or something.
Wait... Streisand's horrific as well. You get my point.
Take it easy with the paranoia, fellas. I'm sure they'll interview both sides on the subject.
Some repressed dumbasses who oppose MMA with all their heart, and then the cool guys (like Rogan for example) and the fighters.

A teaser didn't sound good though...
Something like: "it's bloody, it's violent, it's no holds barred! so why do Americans love this type of fighting? we just told you! tonight on 60 minutes."
I hope Renzo and Miletich get their points across well. I just know it'll have a couple of idiots on it as well. And I'll get all for a while.
Anyway, it's more exposure for the sport.
What's funny is, blood is probably the last thing MMA-fans wanna see. Often it means a cut stoppage, and that just bums out everybody.
