I also love when crowds get excited when the groundwork gets good. My friends are casual fans as well so I get the same, "Stand em up! This is boring!" crap.
I love seeing good groundwork. The fans at the Mir/Sylvia fight were retarded. They saw a man snap another mans arm. CMON PEOPLE!!!!

I have Cable... I am also very happy at the moment. I just found out that Pride has been added in my local area, as well as KOTC. So, will be checking out Wanderlei Silva and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic on the 28th! w00t! I am unsure why Pride was not one months ago... maybe the recent surge in UFC ratings and attention has helped to get MMA greater demand. I called my Cable company some time ago and asked for them to add some better sports PPV. Maybe others did as well... there is now a Sports and Events Preview channel that I had not seen before.

I can agree that the ground work is usually really cool. But, it is a lot like a chess match. If your ground game is superior to your opponent, then it could end quickly with a great deal of excitement. If the skills of the fighters are roughly equal, then it could become a stalemate (like with Ivan Salaverry vs Nathan Marquardt last Saturday).
The crowd did boo that stalemate, but I do not feel they actually were booing the fighters or the general idea of a ground game in MMA. The fighters were cancelling each other out so well that the entire match might well have been guard versus break guard, without any clear upper hand being gained. Marquardt seemed to win the match based solely on being on top 90% of the fight... without gaining any serious advantage outside of being on top.

I was unable to watch the main event unfortunately. I had to leave before that came on. I didn't watch it so I don't know but there's alot of guys who are on the bottom but still very much in control.

I find that you and I agree on a lot
I thought that the Ivan Salaverry vs Nathan Marquardt match was a draw, and should have been judged that way based on Salaverry's ability to keep Marquardt neutralized from the guard position. I did not see very many chances for Marquardt to get past Salaverry's guard. But, as seen many times, do NOT let a match go to the judges!
