Brazilian Fighters falling hard
Why does it seem like brazilian fighters start off excellent and later in their careers just lose it in a heartbeat
Vitor, Rizzo, and now Wanderlei (at least it seems) are examples of this

Belfort and Rizzo have historically had questionable motivation at times. They had legitimate reasons at times, such as Vitor's sister being abducted, but you almost never knew which version of Vitor and Rizzo you might get.
It could also be argued that maybe they just get burned out from fighting so much at an early age. It takes such a huge physical and mental toll on one's body, burnout is a very real possibility. I see it all the time with guys who are wrestling from when they are 5 years old on. By the time they get to college, they're burnt out from the competition. It could easily be the case with some of these guys.
I don't think thats the case at all with Wanderlei. He's been beaten by two of the best fighters in the world. I don't think that is a reflection of his downfall just yet. That being said, this upcoming fight against Igor is very dangerous and holds the real possibility of a third devastating KO loss for Wanderlei. And if he is suffering from any sort of post concussion syndrome (also a possibility), it could have devastating effects if it were to happen.

Wandy shouldn't fight for a while......At least it is good they are saying he will only fight if he is cleared by both a Jap Dr. and then the NSAC clears him also from what I've heard.
And I agree with gygax Vitor has always been great but a total head case when it comes down to it......You might see the best Vitor ever or you might see the worst there really is no way to tell who will show.
I doubt it has anything to do with Brazil or them being Brazilian though their are other fighters that have been good and fell off, Times change and sometimes these guys get stuck in a box and can't pull them selfs out.

I don't really know if Wanderlei is on the decline, just no yet. He fought Mirko, a person who most people have as #2 HW in the world and got KO'ed HARD. Some people just don't come back that good their next fight and maybe Wanderlei is one of them. Yes he got ko'ed hard once again but I think we need to wait and see how he fairs. He did get beat by top competition also, no cans in the least bit.

I know you probably didn't mean it in a derogatory way, but that is an offensive term to the Japanese people.

Yeah, good point. I don't think it's offensive.

Another example might be Assuerio Silva, he wasn't on the level of Vitor or Wanderlei for sure, but he had a lot of hype in his UFC debut and he hasn't won yet and he might have a hard time against Cheick Kongo at UFC 70!

i think wanderlei is an animal just by the fact that he wants to fight again already,so motivation is not his problem
i think in general burn out is a big thing espcially if youve been fighting so long, thats also the diffrence between champions ,theres those champions that gain the tile and fade away cause they cant get motivated anymore and then theres the warrior champions who gain the title and hold on to it for years fighting every challenger like there is no tomorrow
those are the crazy champions like
fedor
liddell
wanderlei
they just want to beat anybody that stands in front of them for as long as there body lets them

I'm just saying that Japanese don't like it. I don't know the origins of the cause, but know that if you used it while addressing me or one of my family, we would be offended. I know that you did not intend it this way and did not take any offense to it. Many make the same error.
It could be the term was/is used mainly when addressing negative feelings towards the Japanese, starting with WWII and continuing through their dominance in the consumer electronic and automobile markets in the U.S.
Edit: Sorry to get this thread off topic. I think that MMA has evolved to the point that having good BJJ is not enough anymore. Fighters like Big Nog are still successful due to the fact that they possess good stand up also. The fact that the Brazilian fighters stand out is probably because they used to be so dominant.
