Sherk fought in Bushido 2 under "The muscle shark", perhaps that's who you're thinking of.
For some reason I can't get the idea out of my head that as recently as 2006 he was known as "The Shark." Am I wrong about that? Did he change his nickname? And if he wasn't The Shark, who in Pride (specifically Bushido) was?

No, definitely not. I'm thinking of an asian fighter. It's driving me nuts. Even when I say Ryo "The Shark" Chonan, it sounds right, or like I've heard that a lot.
You've got it the wrong way, sitnspin.
He's "Shark" now, but used to be "Piranha".
But yeah, Chonan was/is both of those two.
And there's definitely something fishy about him.
Ah-HA! Thanks, Gooner. This all started because Subgenius wrote something about Chonan and called him The Piranha, and I thought, "He's not the Piranha, he's The Shark. And when I went to Fight Finder to prove it, they had him listed as The Piranha. I thought I was going crazy.
Thanks again for clearing that up.
He looks more like a Mahi-Mahi.

I always thought he looked like a perfect Bond-villain.
Pure evil.
Chonan just totally fits the role of "dude you do NOT want to **** with'. I could easily see him as a Yakuza in a feature film
