March Madness Prediction Contest!
First off, thanks to FranklinFan for doing the prediction contest for UFC 68. His idea was the impetus behind this contest.
Here's how the March Madness Prediction Contest is going to work:
- From Round 1 through the finals, select who you think is going to win and PM me your predictions.
- You'll get 1 point for correct Round 1 predictions, 2 points for Round 2, 3 pts for Rd 3... up to 6 points for picking the champion.
- The person with the most points at the end wins.
- Please include a final score prediction for the championship game as a potential tie-breaker.
- The top three placing people will win points, 60% of the pot for 1st, 30% of the pot for 2nd and 10% for 3rd. As an example, for a 10,000 pt pot, the winner would get 6000 pts, 3000 for 2nd and 1000 for 3rd.
- Along with your predictions, send me 500 points which will be forwarded to the winners upon completion of the event.
- You can preview the brackets at any major sports site, ESPN, CNNSI, etc.
- Wednesday's play-in game is not a part of the contest.
- Have your predictions into me NO LATER THAN 12 NOON EST ON THURSDAY, MARCH 15TH.
I'd like to play as well, so I'm going to submit my predictions here, which will also provide you with an example as to how to submit your predictions to me.

Im from Southern CA too heatwaves and every bit of me wants to say UCLA will make it to the finals again, especially since my gf went there, but I just don't think they have the offense to make it again. I hope they prove me wrong.

As JoeRoganIsMyHero mentioned, it's college basketball. The bracket featuring all of the matchups can be found here:
ESPN.com - NCB - 2007 Men's NCAA Tournament Bracket
Or here's a printable bracket which features the team's records:
http://assets.espn.go.com/i/ncaa/07men_bracket.pdf
In the US, it's the the second most wagered sporting event next to the Super Bowl. If you want to participate, just let me know. Similar wagers like this are common in office pools -- in fact, my wife won it a couple of years ago and she picked the teams based upon their mascots!

Thus far there are only three entrants with their picks AND their 500 points in: Champion2K7, JoeRoganIsMyHero and Heatwaves.
I expected some procrastination, but... get your picks in!
Question for the masses: If we get less than 5,000 point in the pool, are you okay with it being winner take all, instead of the top three finishers taking 60%/30%/10% of the pot?

I guess it's called Fight Forum and not College Basketball forum for a reason. We have a poor turnout for submissions, but what the heck, it will make all of our chances easier. The total pot is only 2000 pts, but everyone has a 1/4 chance of winning. The participants are JoeRoganIsMyHero, Champion2K7, Harms and Heatwaves. A couple of others expressed interested, but didn't get their picks in on time.
I'll provide a scoring update after today's games. Thanks everyone.

March Madness Prediction Contest Results After Day 1:
16 pts. possible
1. Harms -- 13 points (Missed Butler, Washington St. and Boston College)
1. Heatwaves -- 13 points (Missed VCU, Indiana and Vanderbilt)
3. Champion2K7 -- 12 points (Missed VCU, Indiana, Vanderbilt and Xavier)
4. JoeRoganIsMyHero -- 9 points (Missed VCU, Indiana, Michigan St., Vanderbilt, Washington St., Boston College and Xavier)
It's sure to turn into a marathon and not a sprint, since we all have different winners (for 6 potential points) and most of us even have different teams reaching the finals.
I'll try to post the updated rankings tomorrow night, but I'm flying to Colorado tomorrow for a friend's wedding so I may be a bit delayed in getting to a computer.

My apologies for not posting this weekend's results quicker. I'm in Colorado for a friend's wedding and I thought I'd have computer access at their house. As it turns out, they took their laptop with them when they went to go stay at a hotel.
I'll post each day's results, starting with Friday, so everyone knows where we're at.
March Madness Prediction Contest Results Through Day 2 (Friday):
32 points possible / 16 points this day
1. Heatwaves -- 26 points / 13 points (Missed Purdue, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee)
2. Champion2K7 -- 24 points / 12 points (Missed Winthrop, UNLV, Kentucky, and USC)
3. Harms -- 23 points / 10 points (Missed Purdue, Winthrop, Kentucky, S Illinois, USC, and Nevada)
4. JoeRoganIsMyHero -- 19 points / 10 points (Missed Purdue, UNLV, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Texas, and Nevada)
Saturday's & Sunday's results coming up in just a few minutes...
