Ring Magazine
Hey everyone. This is my first post. I am the Imaging Director for Ring Magazine.
And since I am starting my own fight promotion, I figured I should probably join some forums.
So a big shout out to everyone here.
Dave

Welcome aboard. Feel free to contribute to our love of combat sports and exchange of ideas concerning training and nutrition. Keep the fight promotion stuff on the DL until you send a PM (Private Message) to Guile or Aikaimmortal so they can judge potential spamming concerns. We need more knowledgeable voices in the boxing sector. Welcome.

Oscar and Ring
As you all have heard by now, Golden Boy Productions has purchased Ring Magazine. Several things have been written about this, some good, some bad.
I personally would like to get your thoughts about the future of the magazine.

Oscar seems to do good at what ever he gets his hands on so aside from the Golden Boy fighters rankings that they may get now....LoL I'd say it is probably good.
Better then Don King buying it !!!

A large number of boxing fans have stated that they were afraid Oscar might use the Ring Magazine to promote his own business.
But in my opinion he is too much of a business man to ever even consider such a thing. He is totally aware of the fact that messing with the quality of the magazine would do him and his whole promotion thingy no good at all. He probably wants to be remembered as both a great fighter and a good business man in general, so why risk his reputation?
I don't expect a lot of changes, to be honest - maybe I am wrong and will either be disappointed or nicely surprised - time will tell.
Dave, what is the name of your promotion? Do you have a website going? What exactly are your plans? Please give us some details.
If welcome, I'd like to ask you what you think of the so-called "Rusian Dominance" in the heavyweight division?
In my opinion it's a matter of circumstances and safe matchmaking. I am European myself and have the feeling that fighting instincts are unevenly spread globally - this makes the American fighting styles more appealing to me: I love the likes of Tyson, Brewster, Bowe. In my opinion the "safety comes first" strategies, as Lennox Lewis, the Klitschkos, Sven Ottke, Markus Beyer, among others, make use of, make for boring fights - it may be the smart thing to do (in terms of winning the fight), but how are you supposed to please the fans this way? A champion has the ability to please the fans and still take almost no risks. But that's all just me.

Welcome aboard Dave.
Interesting question regarding Golden Boy's acquisition of Ring Magazine. As the premiere boxing magazine to ever cover the sweet science, its legacy is cemented in the sports history. If it's run as a completely separate entity, which in theory I'm sure is the plan, the purchase will only ensure the magazine's livelihood. But if the promotion and the magazine become too entwined, it would be a real shame to see it become nothing more than a promotional tool for GB Promotions.
For example, with the proliferation of weight classes and sanctioning bodies, many who follow the sport tend to believe that whoever holds the mythical Ring Magazine title is the true champion. Of course, the fear would be that a GBP fighter would get the nod over another promoted boxer. That cannot be allowed to happen, despite I'm sure the many promises to the contrary.
To be brutally honest, if it was Top Rank/Bob Arum or Don King Productions, I'd be alot more concerned that the days of the great Ring Magazine were numbered. In the short history of GBP, I've been impressed with their seeming desire to do what's right for the sport.
Just my opinion.

Combat Sports Entertainment
Since I still don't have permission yet to discuss our new promotion on this forum, I would ask all of you who are interested to please email me at:
dave@combatsportsentertainment.com
AND....I would openly ask the staff who are interested to see what they could do to get me permission to talk about it. I have sent the PM as required over a week ago and have not had a response.
I do respect this forum and do not want to break the rules.

Thank you, Dave, for showing genuine respect.
I was planning not to interfere since you were asked to PM either Aika or Guile. But since they have not responded yet ...
You do have permission now. I have been a moderator on Fightforum for 2.5 years. Feel free to discuss your promotion openly on the forum.
If Aika or Guile reply in the future and ask you not to talk about it, please get back to me so we can sort things out.
For now, you are good.

Agreed. Discussing promotions are fine. Its the selling of goods, be they DVD's supplements, clothing, etc. that is highly frowned upon.
I should have clarified that in my initial welcoming post. My fault.
